I told a very close friend I liked her and wanted to explore dating. I wish I had seen this video before I even approached the subject. I did not articulate myself the best I could, and definitely came off looking less attractive and maybe even needy. Self reflecting on the reasons you listed I feel like I told her so that I could erase my own uncertainty (which was the wrong reason to do so). I appreciate the information in this video.

I think my relationship with my husband, how we met and developed our relationship etc. was outside the norm - so not a good example for either point of view. That said, I don’t recall him ever explicitly stating “I like you” or “do you want to be my girlfriend?” I assumed how he felt based on what I knew of him as a man coupled with his actions/behavior. So, overall I lean more toward your take.
