If it's just for sex then I don't think it's ethical 99% of the time, of course if it was a very casual and superfluous relationship and your friend doesn't care, go ahead, I think it's a little disgusting but you do you. If your friend cared about this person deeply, there's no way he'll be 100% ok with it. But I think that if you're in love then there's no bro code to respect, just acknowledge and accept you're giving up a friendship for a romance.

this is classic. The Bro code is simple. Don't go where your friends have been..period. If you do you are simply lazy and exploiting the connection already established. It can only create division and ill will. In the unlikely case that the friend gives consent, it will likely be facetious. There are to many fish in the sea. I think the bro-code is simple in this case. You can date exgirlfriend, but You have to ask Your friend first. He can have a veto, but only if there's logical reason, like that he wants to get back together. If he gives You a veto, without a reason, You're authorized to f**k his veto.
