How do you go about learning songs/riffs etc by ear? Is there a starting point that helps you anchor the key or the main parts of a riff and then you fill in the blanks from there? What tools and techniques do you use?

So glad to hear about the return of this is why you suck at guitar....that episode on vibrato was a HUGE help for me and what first hooked me on your channel. As for future Wankshops top of my list would be if you would hit some of the older Queensryche riffs/solos like Eyes of a Stranger as nobody ever hits up riffs and solos from Mindcrime or earlier albums by the band. As for hair bands would love to see some L.A. Guns riffs and leads, such a great band! Your Opeth Windowpane lesson left me floored and I became an instant fan, so more stuff in that style would be cool. One other thing I never see people teach is Reverend Horton Heat licks and solos (not sure if that is in your guitarsenal or not but I would love some lessons on that!). The next time you are feeling the EVH, maybe consider the song 5150? Such a great guitar song. I know my suggestions were all over the place, and actually I like far more styles of music than represented in my message here so don’t be afraid to branch out as chances are I will dig it. Oh, one more: Witch House by Scale the Summit! Thanks for all the great lessons!!!

I'd love exercises or a song/riff that helps you get accurate bends while in the context of playing a lead lick (not just practicing a bend all by itself, which is way easier). e.g. the intro to Pete Thorn's Monster Movie, or any other similar inspired-by-blues-and-also-EVH rock riff.

I'll devour much Opeth stuff as you care to deliver. I'm sure I'm not alone there. Personally, if you ever got around to doing any of the Morningrise songs, like, say, pieces of Advent, Black Rose Immortal, or The Night and the Silent Water, that'd just be too cool. Also: I don't know if this idea fits the particular formula of WW per se, but I'd love to hear more about your general philosophical approach toward learning guitar. Sure, it really does leak through in your humor in general delivery, but I'd be fascinated to hear more about where you found the confidence and discipline to achieve such a virtuosic command over your instrument. Still eagerly awaiting the next TIWYSAG, by the way- so, so glad to hear about its return. Scales are among the most important areas of focus for me right now... I figure they're basically a pretty indispensable thing to master for almost any player. Thanks, Uncle Ben. You take good care of yourself, now!

Not sure if you're covered it before but...proper pick usage. One of your recent videos sent me to Breaking the Code in which I learned I was using the trailing edge of my pick when playing quickly instead of the leading edge. This has completely crushed me to learn I've been using the wrong side of the pick for decades. I am a broken man. Help me Uncle Ben Kenobi

Learning something about learning would be great. E.g. watch you learn a song or a rifff. Do you start with the easiest bit? The hardest bit? How slow do you slow it down. Etc. etc. I constantly have the feeling I'm being too impatient. Or maybe I'm not?

Something about left hand fingering strategies with two and three notes per strings (or a mix of the two). I juste dived into Troy Grady’s ascending fours puzzle and the different ways to approach the problem are fascinating... but I keep tripping on my own fingers ! You could leave out the right hand techniques, as Troy and yourself have already explained it quite well ?
