Just got back from Mexico City!

Been spending all day getting caught up on messages and stuff! Sorry for the delay, just got back from an AMAZING week in Mexico City! Man.... if you've never been, you GOTTA GO! Amazing, and very cheap on the American dollar.
Had one of the top 3 meals I've ever had at Limosneros, the absolute BEST drinks I've EVER had at Handshake (seriously, life changing), rode a hot air balloon over the pyramids, saw some amazing museums, and more!!! Seriously amazing time. I'm super fortunate to have the opportunity to go on such a fun trip.
This was exactly the kind of battery recharge I needed; I've known it for a long time, but this was a great reminder of how unhealthy my work/life balance really is. I don't wanna get terribly deep and dark here, but I really need to work on it. I had to be PULLED AWAY from my work to go have an amazing time with my wife and dearest friends. It's hard for me to ever turn down work, because my work is playing music, and playing music is the BEST!!! But I've got to remember that living life, having fun, and spending time with my friends and family is the well that recharges me, know what I mean? My work is BETTER if I take the time to enjoy things other than shredding!!!
Have you ever struggled with this? How do you maintain balance?

I think some of the stress comes from being a sole proprietor/independent contractor. It's hard to slow down when you aren't sure when the gigs will dry up.

I'm not very good at work life balance either. It's hard to take breaks when so much about trying to make a living as a musician is about maintaining momentum and it's hard to step away (besides the fact that it's generally fun relative to anything else). My plan is to institute rest days where I don't play or listen to any 'work music' in the next few weeks. I'd be into seeing your process of what you try and your assessment of how you think it's working.
