Dear Uncle Ben, I struggle with legato that’s not on the E string because I cannot seemingly do decent pulloffs without touching the strings beneath and causing noise. Do I need to be really conscious of muting the other strings with my right hand palm ? Help me Uncle Ben Kenobi!

Thanks Uncle B! Needed some legato for my arsenal. I'd like some more legato stuff please.

I enjoyed practicing this exercise for the past week or so. My takeaways are that this should definitely be one most players can master as as such it’s a good confidence builder. It sharpens up fretting hand finger independence and timing. Also, it teaches scale fragment patterns that a player can keep in his back pocket to apply to composition/improvisation. Lastly, practice it as an alternate picking exercise as Uncle Ben recommends! It takes on a whole new sound due to the timbre (think that’s the right word) of the picked notes and is a great hand synchronization exercise. I found that 3 of the patterns were no problem getting clean and up to speed, but the second pattern gave me some trouble because I had always only used it exclusively in legato. Oh and use a metronome or the backing tracks especially at first because it’s if it’s not in time, it will sound like garbage. Wish I had Uncle Ben and YouTube when I was a noob Catholic schoolboy guitarist ! I had Mel Bay and printed tabs if I was lucky. The horror!- sheet music. Guitar pro makes learning so much easier. Noob guitarists have it easier than ever. Of course, thanks Uncle Ben! New patreon subscriber! Happy I did! It’s a deal! Stepmom told me so

Thumb position: do you ever "point" the tip of your thumb at the neck, or is it always pressed more flat as if taking a thumb print (for this and barre chords)? Thanks!

Domo Arigato Mr. Legato!

Is this part of the Weekend Wankshop series??? #373 ???

Diogo Camacho

This was fun. It was also fun to tie it back to your speed bursts on 4 notes per beat and do some string skipping and legato bursts. It’s clunky but it can be fun too.

Mary Blasko
