Curious to learn how indirectly she helps - good chance more direct help comes from Anna. Maybe having sex with a Guardian (in guardian form) raises alarm (/ is taboo of sorts) so that Anna gets alerted and she realizes what else is going on?

I'm pretty sure that Toby is Anna's son and I've been expecting her to get involved at some point. I think we can also infer that there's some strong magical protection around that house given her confidence that the children are safe. We know that all the changeling have magical protection, but I think Anna's might be particularly special. Back in chapter 16 Anna commented about crazy things happening if her offspring manifested powers outside of her notice. I'm not sure if the combination of magical berries and heart guardian powers qualifies. I'm not sure if the fact that Anna has Simon's key will come into play. One wild idea I had is that the Shadowman might be Doros himself and attacking his own stewards is essentially a cover. Of course most important of all is that all of this is happening within Simon's retelling of the story to Cassie and Scarlett. The Shadowman might be able to break out of a time loop, but he can't fight the laws of narrative causality.
