Wrong. Separating church from state was the smartest thing France could do. That’s why we have abortion rights written into our constitution, for instance. Human rights and religion are separate topics and one should not impede on the other. Education is also separated from religion and this also keeps everyone on the same level.

Did you know that gender dysphoric individuals have a much higher prevalence for personality disorders (81.4%) and that the top diagnosed is NPD at 57.1%? I'm not saying all dysphoric individuals have NPD, but clearly the ones in the opening video do. I mean, look at their faces... all chin up with provocative behavior. And making fun of religion? Coming from an Atheist myself, this is just disgusting behavior. Just because someone has a different worldview than you doesn't give you the right to openly mock them and elicit negative emotions. It's a power trip for these people. "Look at me I'm better than you" type behavior.

France has historically been one of the most pious Catholic countries in the world longer than any other; she used to be called "the eldest daughter of the Church." For the entirety of the Middle Ages France was strongly Catholic, and even in the 1500s when England split away into Anglicanism and Germany split off into reformed Lutheranism, France didn't budge an inch. This is the same country that birthed Joan of Arc. Even the atheistic Reign of Terror and the iron rule of Napoleon in the 1700s couldn't break France's religious faith. Now the country is completely unrecognizable, a secular hollow shell of what she once was, mocking its own historic faith.

I agree that much of the grotesque display was unfortunate and agree with your comment that mockery toward any religion at the Olympics is disgraceful. I do not, however, agree that people who have knelt or sat out our anthem hate their country. It is a form of peaceful protest and should continue to be protected, not denigrated.
