Honestly I'm with the boys, there's nothing about pushing a big boulder together that constitutes friendship, any two random people could do that even if they didn't know each other at all. Teamwork however requires the unification of two or more people to solve a problem. I agree that the exam is flawed.

ngl, I'm with Twitch and Isaac on this one. The challenge was clearly one of teamwork, not necessarily friendship, and the "just push it" option is basically counter to every other thing we've seen about magic school.
