This is a position where coming up with the candidate moves might be not quite as a difficult as usual for this series, but coming up with all the nuances behind each candidate choice is a bit more challenging. These sorts of positions used to be nightmares for me, but now I really enjoy them even though I wouldn't say I'm the best at navigating them. Enjoy!

Yes, but given that I already hold RE, leaving it open to try and hit it myself might slightly favor me.

Nice idea! I would worry that perhaps ANGEL scoring only 8 points could be a problem, maybe allowing Joe to block MANGEL while remaining far ahead, but love the creativity.

What about try to draw one N and keep MA to set up ANGEL -> MANGEL?

Another benefit to keeping the R is that if Joe is able to make a 4 tile play hooking G(AIT), like HUNG or DING, BREAM will fit alongside it!

If you hadn't drawn the last E after IAMB, Joe could have played REDBAIT (30 points). Did you worry about that?
