It goes back to heraldry-- it just so happens two unicorns held their royal family's crest, prior to the merger with England ^^

Hmm tough choice between unicorn and wolf....I must say I'm curious why Scotland chose a unicorn of all things to be their national animal.... then you have the wolf that have all vanished in the area.
