When Oak mentioned if he was Light and not trying to get caught, he would "mask" the deaths with the top "accidental reasons" for deaths, and I think he misses the original point on what Light was trying to accomplish. Light doesn't want to "hide" the deaths. He wants to broadcast them to the world and show that evil doers will be punished. Masking it with other deaths will only be detrimental to his goal.

Yeah he's going too far, no person should have that kind of power and now he's gonna be going after a guy who's just doing his damn job? Too far Light, but I already feel like with this being an anime that this is nothing. Got a feeling he's just gonna get much worse.

Amazing classic Anime with decent dubs you guys should try: Cowboy Bebop (space bounty hunters), Trigun (space western), Big O (batman with giant robots), YuYu Hakusho (punk kids fighting demons), Chamurai Samploo (stylized samurais), Hellsing (vampires and big titty police girls), Fullmetal Alchemist/and or Brotherhood (I'm not sure how to describe this one...)

IMO Light is just incredibly cocky and naive. L even said it last episode. Despite his apparently significant genius, he's also like, 17, and he's very childish in his ways of thinking. I think rather than worrying about being caught, he wants to get rid of Ray just because he's following him. Consequences be damned, no one messes with Kira. But to be fair, he has a point, even if it's shortsighted. What are they gonna use to prove his guilt? As long as he keeps them off the death note, they can't charge him with some invented crime like psychic murder without seriously heavy proof, even if they suspect something like that.

So Light doesn't realize that Raye no longer suspects him which is why he is still going after him. Also, he made himself obvious on purpose. In ep 1 or 2, he said "I want the world to know of my existence." So he didn't even want to try to cover it up.

Ahh I'm loving watching you guys react to my favorite anime! As others have already mentioned, Light is cocky. He wants people to know that there is someone passing "righteous judgement on the wicked." He wants to be revered as a god and doesn't want to hide. It's a lot like how some serial killers leave hints or clues for investigators at the crime scene. Your earlier comparison to Breaking Bad was extremely on point. To me, those shows are incredibly similar. Light and Walter are very similar people too, driven by similar motives of narcissism. They think they're smarter than everyone else.

It could also be that Light believes he needs to die in order for something in the future to happen, (pressure the police and demotivate outside interference, etc)

Light's current kill count is now 580 and it's only been 4 episodes! It's easy to forget how quickly his kills add up because we just get "small" numbers per episode. Episode 3, it was 46, this episode it was 7. I personally think he should leave Ray alone. If he dies, then it would obviously make it clear who Kira is. But, Light is not a smart criminal. Light is a classic narc and as a result, all he has been doing, is leading L (and others) to his identity. As soon as a task force was formed, he quickly gave himself away and allowed Kira to go from being hidden among billions to what, several thousand in a day. As of episode 3, he again allowed that to narrow further to 1) a student and 2) someone who has some kind of connection to the police. Yet he doesn't see how stupid he has been and instead of using his intelligence, he's just going the "brute" way and thinking he can just get rid of those in his way. I remember when watching it, I knew Light wasn't going to take the Shinigami's eyes. Light is a narcissist who thinks everything will go according to his plan. He's already said he wants to be god. He isn't going to do anything to shorten his life. And as he sees it, he has no need for the eyes because he has easily been able to figure out his targets.

Oak seems to be struggling a bit with Light as a protagonist. While Light is the main character of the show, he is not the good guy. Light himself thinks of himself as a god and true justice, so anybody aganist him (Police, FBI and L) are his enemies and need to be taken care of. This is absolute for him. As a Watcher we can just enjoy the ride. The Fanbase of Death Note is pretty much split between fans of Light and L.

Light is smart, but he's also extremely cocky and narcissistic. L is 7 years older and it shows in their thought processes. It's great cat and mouse play. Can't wait to see your reactions to this show around Christmastime 🤣

A lot of commenters are saying that Light doesn't know he's in the clear and has reason to kill Ray, but I think Light could assume Ray cleared him because Ray wouldn't have handed Light his badge with his name on it if he still suspected Light of being Kira.

yeah fellas when it comes to a cat and mouse show the only thing that comes close for me is walter and hank in breaking bad and breaking bad is my fav show of the 2 but when it comes to investigation and cat and mouse this will always win for me. plus that sound track is soooo damn good I have it playing when im editing :)

I don’t believe Ray has to go, but keep in mind that Light still believes he’s onto him, and that anyone opposing him is evil. We might not think Ray has to go, but Light sure does.
