Thanks fam, I’ll definitely look at this

Do you have whole house surge protection? Power surges can lead to hardware failure. A lot of people think that because they use the powerbar style surge protector that plugs into the wall that they're protecting their devices, but an electrical engineer pointed out to me that the only effective way for surge protection is right at the electrical box with one of these: https://www.amazon.ca/EATON-CHSPT2SURGE-Whole-Protector-Single/dp/B01LXRNOEI/ref=sr_1_5?dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.LXL2x-UhoBI70iHR2HTNUwYrp5T2EFDDNrSUOtt3X5UQ9FM_kb6Rl51dL4ciewjxY-pXL0yGk_dvQmn5pP-tMpNUIXvXQwUCvfRBaBq3UrfwR64p_eqY2pNy6yMUoQuy4mOdaxZ62JEdFxB70x0sWKMI9v0TUG_fAEeAcpzEGIAefFmCqHfBnkdiOkFgZOAE-VxKYLI3WmGwZCFBPzfCgbuE6pXzuYJVOSMG7bJdDwf82zUZQsXmHIq6-zVLfDaKozGYzgJxBmYWuUloQfuGP-0zdU8AHcn0bYWbyBGno38.hfuIxLQJTUmCnpSVVaT15ETe2epAE2l2x2oyyUyh3lY&dib_tag=se&hvadid=588771267978&hvdev=c&hvlocphy=9001170&hvnetw=g&hvqmt=e&hvrand=14321811697908488463&hvtargid=kwd-332107682543&hydadcr=19962_13393186&keywords=whole-house+surge+protector&qid=1715948626&sr=8-5 That's the one I have installed on my breaker box. A lightning strike will still (probably) kill the protector and need replacement but it has a much higher chance of dispersing the excess electricity right to the grounding rods. Power bars/strips are basically a scam tbh. Anyways, I'll stop bombarding you with unwarranted information now. Just something to consider if you actually want to protect your expensive device that you use to generate income with.

Thanks for sharing your story. Similar thing happened to me but it was the Power Supply, luckily those have many years of warranty, so I got a completely new one for free. It feels like living in the dark ages without a computer!

When I dust my pc I usually use a small handheld vac (like dust buster size; you can buy them pretty cheap) with a small little brush-hose attachment. Oh and also never do any maintenance on your pc if it's still plugged in, youre usually asking for trouble if you do.

Generally the big rules of thumb is pay attention to voltage/wattage ratings when installing new components and moisture=death.

Yea it was probably some dumb shit I did. I’m still very new to the whole landscape of computers so I’m still trying to learn the proper way to handle tech.

That's rough man, but at least it's like you said, you're careful and had some money in reserve in case of repairs. What might be a good idea too is to have a cheap backup system like a low spec gaming laptop (8core cpu with 1050ti 16gb ram) or something similar that you can still fall back on in case shit goes down. I honestly don't see how suspending your pc every night would cook your motherboard. The only thing I can think of is: When you were cleaning it was the poweroff and was it unplugged from the wall? Also what did you use to clean it with? If you either dont "drain" the residual power from your psu or don't wait long enough for the remaining power in the capacitors to dissipate, and you go in and start spraying canned air duster on your board/system you could cook something potentially. But who knows, sometimes shit just breaks.

femshoptop

Ah ok. I hope it’s the same with mine.

Yeah for me it was just a new board. Was a few years back so it was some MSI Z270 board that went bad after a year or so.

femshoptop

I’m not sure of my specs and I can’t verify until I get my rig back. Also, the only problem was the board? Everything else was good?

TheRealEffinDeal

PC issues are the worst. Had a similar issue with a Mobo years back and pulled my hair out for days trying to figure out the issue before I took it to a shop and they almost immediately said it was the board. What kinda Rig you rocking?
