Also, what to make of arguments that our future is neo- or techno-feudal? Do these terms make any sense? Or is it better to think of two alternate futures: Japanisation or Brazilianisation?

I’ve always found America and Brazil have interesting parallels in terms of massive ex slave countries, with extreme wealth disparity. Seems Brazil has mix of New York and the deep south in terms of finance, agriculture and immense poverty. While legacy of earlier industrialization and now tech has led to more economic success for some in the US.
