Chandry's Story - The Painted Devil
🕑 Added 2021-01-23 03:21:21 +0000 UTCOkay, so I went ahead and wrote a full Shakespearan play for Chandry's origin story, complete with a SparkNotes guide to read after you get through the play! 😂😂😂 I'm dropping it a bit early in case there are (very likely) questions for the author Q&A in a few days!
It's a bit shorter than the typical Shakespeare play, and I borrowed heavily from Shakespeare's style of writing and language to write it: there's one or two semi-famous lines peppered throughout (the whole play is basically Hamlet mixed with Othello mixed with a little bit of A Comedy of Errors and Macbeth and A Midsummer Night's Dream). OH except there's NO imabic pentameter anywhere in sight, nor really any rhyming. I hate it and it's not there. Don't look for it!
There was going to be a whole thing where MC found this manuscript on top of a basket in Chandry's shop and was really confused by it, but I feel like you get the idea just from that sentence. 😂
Notes: Read the Sparknotes after you read the play.
Content warnings: play descriptions of murder; discussions of madness, insanity, and potential sociopathy; discussions of forced marriage; Shakespearan sexual innuendoes.
Enjoy!

LENA THIS IS INCREDIBLE. You have reactivated my dormant theater kid self. Releasing this before the Q&A is both a blessing and a curse because now there are SO MANY NEW THINGS TO ASK ABOUT
