Trevor Perry

Did Honor Harrington migrate to the starwars universe without me knowing? And still on Basilisk station? Edit: I looked it up, and Honor Salima does exist in star wars, crazy coincidence she was at Basilisk here, one of my favorite space opera book series.

Theodor

I dont know a lot about force blanks but it would be a funny gag and might work in universe if this happens in all of Palpatines chapters from now on. His aides slowly being more and more exasperated with the same question all the time

Skycrafter

It would perhaps be quite ironic if Palpatine trying to kill Dooku fails and results in the war going “real” now.

tianzigamer X

I wonder if Rain had the possibility to kill Anakin would he do it? No Anakin= no Darth Vader no Luke but well noone to kill Windu and erase the Jedis, perhaps Palpatine would be killed or had to invest alot more time to destroy the Jedi/Republic... It would also kill the novel... but just so some fantasies :D

Kieran Hosty

Loved this one, I find Palpatine's chapters really fun, you get the double team of the impact separatist efforts have on the republic, and Palpatine's scheming to compensate and pivot on them. I honestly really like Alrix, would like to see her and Bonteri talk. Bonteri returning Rees to Windu's doorstep with another message for the councillor would be incredible. Also humbling over-confident characters is always the best.

wearMoniker

"and he drink feel the terror and panic" That "feel" should probably be "freely"

KnightofTempest

Thing is, the Jedi Council are too used to relying on the Force to help them suss out stuff like that. Most Force Users are. It's why stuff like Force Blanks fuck with them so hard. With Palpy using the Shroud of the Dark Side to blind their force senses to his Sithness, plus his acting chops, they probably already dismissed him as a possibility.

Jmc mc

Agreed while the space battle strategy is fun, it can also be very dry, furthermore these alternate pov scenes provide the information to the reader that drives the plot forward, for example we now have Palpatine being aware of bonteri which will hopefully lead to some more info on the unusual force blankness plot hook that's only been covered lightly a few times Palpatine is the perfect character to recognize the threat and significance and thus provide the reader with an explanation regarding the anomaly especially since he'll provide that perspective from the dark side. im writing too much in a comment love the story so far!

elsicava

That's brilliant

syu

In legends canon, battle of Anaxes is where the bulwark fleet got destroyed. I assume it won't be the decisive battle here, perhaps due to the earlier introduction of the victory class leading to insufficient numbers?

Peter

Really? I tend to disagree. The Bullwark fleet is only running rampant because Palpatine wants it to induce more fear in the core worlds and increase militarism. I actually really liked this chapter as it gave insight into the steady erosion of democracy and the political fallout from the armistice arc. Also, I love when even with all his scheming Palpatine is still caught off guard; it adds realism to the siths plan and how it relies on many other people to be complicit in order to create the galactic empire

Enkelados

I hate to say it, but the Republic politics chapters with Palestine pov are not the same quality as the rest. The stuff with mobs against animals is unbelievable for me and the admiral running rampant after the bullwarks the same.

Nick Ramsey

As someone else commented 10ish chapters back, I too enjoy seeing Palpatine painted as a competent strategist. With that said, it is .. PECULIAR .. to me that even at this point, no one among the Jedi suspects Palpatine. Like.. you'd anticipate that after being explicitly informed of suspicions that there is a Sith in the Republic, someone would sit down and go through a list of major players in the Republic and ask, "Could this person be secretly a Sith? How about this person? That person?" I understand the perspective that P. presents himself so well that he is simply above suspicion.. in the mind of the average citizen.. but the Jedi Council are not (or at least by no means exhaustively) foolish people. Yoda, Obi Wan, Windu, Gaellia, that spy woman.. these are canny folk.

Mad Max

And why are these people treating him like the boogeyman?

Nathan Ganesan

I'm hoping at one point to actually see a discussion amongst the jedi where they fully realize that "oh fuck he's a force blank".

wearMoniker

The funniest thing is, given the way Palpy has riled up the Core, it'll be hard to stop the war even if he is exposed as a Sith. Especially since a "Do we ride or die with the Republic or not?" debate risks a schism within the Jedi. That's easy to answer with Dooku leading the CIS, but if it becomes a grubby ordinary war, well, that leads to reflection on your organization's purpose.

Voligne

Name the sequal Hyperdrive.

Akel

I love how the jedi are "Oh [beep] Bonterri" and Palpatine is like "who?"

Maximus

So according to what I've gleened, Anakin is in for another spanking by Rain. Looking forward to it. I need a battle where Rain dominates again. It's been too long. Thanks for the chapter.

Maximus

I am wondering whether Rain can use a meeting of the two sith. I have forgotten whether he placed Dooku under any special surveillance using Sev'rance.

syu

Isard will bring it back up though, as he start to look into it

Mrsean22

Palpatine was so confident this chapter. CIS fleet making the Core afraid, got control of the media and no one suspects a thing far as Palpatine can see. But that mood went down once he heard Rain someone important but for some reason only hearing of Rain now(force blank for the win). And that is making Palpatine suspicious. Curious if Palpatine suspects that Rain is working secretly for Dooku? Rain is currently helping Ventress. But that looks like the final straw for Palpatine so he looks like Dooku isn't useful anymore and is actually gonna try winning the war now. Not gonna go as you suspect Palpatine.

elsicava

A one year long Clone Wars would be absolutely hilarious. But no. No way. We are at Chapter 50 now... so half way I guess? There is a critical endpoint for this story irl wise. That's one year from now. Sublight Drive will wrap up by then, from which I'll be MIA for two years serving my country. When I return, hopefully I still got enough brain juices for a sequel.

Viv15

There's no way in hell the Clone Wars are ending soon. Dooku's already lost control of the Confederate Armed Forces, and is burning politicalpower to hold onto the executive seat. *Perhaps* Palpatine could assassinate him and frame Tann, but she's so pathological by the book I doubt slimy sheev can make the charges stick. Worst case he seizes the master codes for the Droid army and issues the general shutdown order, as Vader did in canon... if Tann and Confederate high command haven't already been preparing for that. It would still probably be a major blow, shutting down 60%-80% of the CAF's fighting strength, but maybe a survivable one if the Republic is too busy dealing with a combined Bulwark/Perlemmian armada sacking Core worlds to capitalize. Palpatine's mastery of the Force is, as always, overblown, and even if it were complete with Rain in play its not calling the shots.

Kana

I do wonder if Rain will just slip from Palpatine's mind, with his being a void and all that. He certainly hasn't the Jedi, but they seem to have constant contact so that's understandable.

Rune Shadow

I'm hoping Dooku has a rabbit to pull out of his hat or Palpatine arranges for Dooku to be killed expecting the Confederacy to fold like in Cannon just for our admiral alliance and the Senate to sweep in with a predetermined plan. In reality Palpatine made their job much easier

Ryan

More!!!!! *sniff* It's not an addiction. I just like like book. So what I reread it like 5 times. Joking aside it hurts to wait another week for a chapter but for chapters this good. I can wait.

Yod

Palpatine: Who tf is Rain Bonteri?

Mad Max

It'll be something if Sidious targets his apprentice, who just happens to have a deadman's switch.

KnightofTempest

Palpatine is too reliant on his power in the Force to aid his scheming. He's too used to being able to forsee future events or read people's minds to help keep all his plates in the air. Guess we're about to see him realize how badly a Force Blank fucks with that. . .

King Henry V

Love how the Jedi just reveal their secrets, really helps set why Palpatine could target their weaknesses so easily in the clone wars

Armo

Ooooo, Papa Palpatine senses fuckery afoot… Rain is about to become accounted for in the Grand Plan. Director Isard, if he hasn’t thought about Rain much, is now going to be probably at least somewhat concerned. Operation Star Lance sounds like it’s going to be a critical turning point, perhaps even more so than Columex. If they can neutralise Rees Alrix and this Bloodhound person, and reach Dua Ningo’s force, they might just have a critical mass fleet to smash some very important - and difficult to replace - infrastructure on the way out. I wonder what Confederate Supreme Command has planned for a potential Republic counter-offensive. Thanks for the chapter! I really look forward to these every week.

Jacob

Great chapter, really curious to see how Palpatine deals with Dooku, and whether or not he survives.

Duco Van der Ploeg

This is cool af! Really looking forward to the next chapter!

PearsMan

Fun chapter! Oh the clone wars is coming to end? That’s a shame, feels like things built up too quickly if so. I get that coming to an end probs still means 20 chapters to wrap this part up. But oof, it felt like just a couple of chapters Rain was hanging out with his droid crew as a Commodore. So the war went from 3 years to 1 year Damn. Ofc unless palpatine gets killed then I can see it still going on, can’t stop the momentum, at least not immediately. But the force is on palpatines side so curious
