Hudson Hohimer

“Betrayal is an unhappy hazard of the dark side”. Does that line show up in the movies at all? Does Rain know he just repeated the count Dooku quote from chapter 53 to Ventress? How badly is that going to fuck with her head?

FuschiaKnight

Sure, but remember what he told the Emberlene commander: he intends on being the only fleet in system by the time they get back. That means that he intends on at the least engaging the various Republic fleets, if not destroying them, before then. Anakin may also successfully delay the Storm Fleet as well to an extent. Quite a few things could go wrong, and let's not forget, the non-Jedi commanders on the field are relevant as well and Octavian Grant is no slouch.

Mirrthful

Gravitic 'railgun' is highly inaccurate because at this stage, you're basically throwing a missile in between two ships and tossing it forward. So it can't really be called a 'railgun' because there aren't any 'guiderails.' Sev'rance Tann is able to wield it to great affect because she can effectively see the future, and thus use Force aimbot to guide her shots. Rain, however, was only able to bastardise the tactic using langrange/shotgun shot at Metalorn and Columex, and even then the hit rate was terrible. Not to mention, the amount of preparation required to pull it off. Ergo, at present the gravitic slingshot remains a tactic only Force users/reality cheaters can use effectively. Everyone else needs days and even weeks of prep time, just look at Columex. What he meant by 'change warfare forever' was when technology becomes advanced enough that anybody can use the gravitic slingshot by pressing a button. Which is why Rain invested into the Techno Union and Loronar Corporation to create a prototype warship with an ACTUAL gravitic 'railgun'. Basically, right now this tactic is the equivalent early black power in our world. Fireworks/black powder arrows are cool, and dangerous, but not very practical to use. Rain Bonteri is trying to invent a rifle/cannon out of it.

Tsorov

While I agree with scouts strengths, you also have to think about the time she has. Since microjumps over the system are not really feasible, her fleets are scattered. Adding to that, the Storm Fleet will vome after 2 days, and if I read the chapter corectly, the first battle of Rain will not commence directly but will take some time. When the storm fleet arrives, the open circle fleet will be in the system, caought between rain and his reinforcments

FuschiaKnight

The proposals for Tann Railgun ships are all experimental prototypes and testbeds just to see if the very concept is viable without a recognitive running them. They likely aren't anywhere close to battlefield ready yet. The Bonteri Scattergun was also something that needed a lot of setup time to prepare, including a few massive freighters to gather the ammunition, and largely useful because the Republic brought such a large fleet to Columex.

Skyz

Maybe this has been addressed previously, but where are the considerations/usage of the mass driver/accelerator super weapons that were so effective previously. I thought the whole concept was that it would change warfare forever? Is it because they dont have big enough ships to utilize the tractor drives correctly? It seems strange that we havent heard anything about it, that I recall, since before the peacetime. I understand that the CIS winning every battle easily with no retaliation would be boring, but I am a bit confused why Rain wouldn't be using that weapon, especially in this sort of outnumbered situation. I recall them using system tugs with outsized tractor beams for it previously, couldn't they bring a couple with them?

Vikaruss

Given how skilled of a commander Octavian Grant is, Rain would do well not to underestimate him. I think he might be one of if not the most dangerous non-jedi commander that Rain has ever faced. He's outnumbered and they're waiting for him. Our boy's goose might be cooked.

Mirrthful

Basic elementary mathematics is clearly not my passion lmao. Fixed, thank you.

Hawk

27 down. 2,710 left to go. A hundredth of the way there. '2,683 left to go.'

Antic Master

Oooo, Rain facing off against a future Grand Admiral! Let’s see how this goes.

FuschiaKnight

While Oppo Rancisis, Saesee Tiin, and Plo Koon are likely all better commanders, Rain has noted that they are all uniformly very consistent and direct in their tactics, even if Alrix was the most so. Scout on the other hand is noted for being extremely indirect and tricky in how she thinks and fights; it might not be a matter of how skilled they are as a commander, but rather how well Scout can mess with Rain's go-tos when fighting Jedi. While Rain's track record vs fighting conventional GAR commanders isn't bad, when combined with the setup of Alrix's force signal, Scout could well be the kind of Jedi clued in enough to the Force to throw all kinds of bullshit at him, but not hooked up enough that he can blind her and screw her senses up. While I think narratively Rain likely still wins to an extent or at least doesn't fully lose, Scout has been set up to be enough to at least make it a pyrrhic victory.

Mad Max

Wait. Vacuum combat and boarding actions? Against a slave rigged fleet? Against ships that can be self destructed remotely? This is gonna be Plo Kloon 2.0

wearMoniker

Anakin's comments to Tallisibeth about her training made for a good contrast with Obi Wan, who basically deduced Calli's plan (a little too late) thanks to his understanding of diplomacy and geopolitics. There's advantages and disadvantages to peacetime and wartime Jedi. It does make me wonder how Tallisibeth will deal with peacetime, if she lives long enough for it.

Tsorov

While I agree that she one of the best commanders in the jedi, i don't think she will be able to surpass Rain, especially after what he did to the last jedi that stood against him

Tsorov

I don't think that she is giving Tann's plan the finger, she just informes the crews earlier what their goals were. It was always planned for her to rampage in the core, what we don't know is the route she will take.

Tsorov

our combat divisions could not enact independent -> our combat divisions could now enact independent

William M.

Those ships are not scuttled; they're impounded. So yes, I can definetly see them being useful to her.

Jacob

Excellent chapter looking forward to what happens next, but while I expect Rain to win I do hope the force doesn't pull a deus ex (through Scout or otherwise) to turn the tide too dramatically.

Parker Groseclose

I think Scout will be both easier and more difficult thank Anakin.

Straven

Loved the turn out and can't wait to see what you bring about in the upcoming bouts.

Straven

Yeah I'm still cackling over the mental image of her question: what would rain do?: Answer: massive galactic sized middle finger!

Akel

Everything is going terribly wrong and fantasticly right at the same time.

wearMoniker

Guess Rain found his other isekai'd human in Calli Trim, who was apparently formerly a German battle mage and before that a Japanese salaryman. (I joke.)

Peter

Am I the only person who remembers Commenor as the planet where Rain had to scuttle his escort ships after escorting the peace delegation back from Onderon? I'm not sure if that's useful for Calli but it is interesting as I also think it's likely for her to pop out of hyperspace there.

Vikaruss

Seems that Fondor has bailed on the Confederacy. Not entirely unexpected given their track record.

Asharzal

Well Rain has to defeat each opponent now one by one, otherwise he's getting overwhelmed. And I do hope that Talisibeth won't die, she such a good character. Also, Calli just decided to give Tann's plan the finger and wreck havoc in the Core instead. I must say, her outsmarting Kenobi was hilarious.

Kinggoldcatter

It's nice to see the Droid ships once more even if their voice was unexpected

Ha dug

Tanya? Is that you over there. lol nice little reference and can’t wait to see how this goes

Helios

Oh this is great. Calli with her slippery, sneaky schemes leading a fleet of wrathful crews who are quite literally out for blood straight into the Core. That's going to be absolutely brutal.

Mrsean22

Well looks like Rain is trapped and outnumbered but he got a plan to use the planet as a area to prep for his multiple battles and using Ventress to get the Storm Fleet. Got to give Anakin credit but he's doing a very good job here. Leaving the more military minded people here to face Rain while going for Ventress himself. Scout it's your time to shine and prove that military education was worth it. Calli is making her move to the Core and tricked Obi-Wan to thinking she was aiming for the planet. Sadly for Obi-Wan he realized too late but sounds like he's moving to a good strategic location to plan for the fighting ahead. Man this is exciting and looking forward to more.

syu

Oh boy, Rain is dating Tanya, and he will soon come to face the least force sensitive Jedi. The battle might not go as planned.

FuschiaKnight

Tallisibeth is one of the Jedi least reliant on the Force, and one of the most trained in fleet tactics going by what Anakin said; it's possible that she may be the one to prove to be Rain's match.

Dineshraj Dhandapani

The 1v1 4 times line was cold af.

Max

I wonder whether Talisibeth will die in that system.

Puncake1102

Trilm wants nothing more than a secure rear echelon position? And has her own success to blame for her current posting? And is surrounded by bloodthirsty maniacs? Tanya Degurechaff, is that you?

Trailblazer

I got a feeling that Rain's strategy in Yag'dhul is a combination of defeat in detail, and lmaoing as they left the Storm Fleet to fend for themselves. And dammit Calli, you just throw the entire plan. Let's hope it's still salvagable.

PrettyBoi99

Anakin’s pep talk was really nice. Great to see him as a proper master.

Avid_reader

Have to admit it. When his ego is not overwhelming him, Anakin can be a fearsome foe. A sane and rational Anakin Skywalker is a nightmare. Also, the fact that the two brightest Jedi generals in the form of Anakin and Obi Wan are about to face the two best Admirals of the CAF would make great headlines. The fact that calli trilm outsmarted kenobi and made it to the core should have the Senate screaming in panic. And I would love to see it compounded when the hydra himself follows her.

Max

Thank you for this chapter.
