Jon.

also that SW ships are very much so not the most mobile on a 3D level and that even a partial encirclement cuts most options

SusshiRoll

Ayo time to capture anyone Padawan? Our MC seem to have quite the affinity with Jedis

Ottstop

The situation was deteriorating due to one man’s stubbornness, made even worse when said main —> man was a Governor-General, the top leader of the Grand Army of the Republic.

Yod

lets not forget he also lifted the siege on planet by destroying entire siege fleet before fighting grant

PearsMan

I wonder if Rain will use boarding pods to send down some commandos crew to see if they do their job for them. Why circle back with their ships when they send their ground units onto the ship while they focus on the next fleet.

Even if the battles end here, the losses inflicted on the Republic must be devastating. All the remaining 2.1k supply ships fled to Yag'Dhul to seek shelter with the siege fleet, which was unceremoniously destroyed by Rain. Even if they try to escape perpendicular to the system plane, I doubt many of them did before being destroyed. The numbers seem a bit off though, Rain lost a third? I can only see the mention of 37 frigates and 20 destroyers and 1 Lucrehulk (rip battleship 53, you were doing good since Christophsis), that's like 22% of Rain's 259, unless more were damaged or destroyed offscreen. Seems like a bad trade against Octavian. 30% vs 50% loss against a peer force. Now it's almost 3:1 odds against the remaining 2 Jedi fleets, with a remaining temporarily disabled 150 ships that could spring back into action once repairs are completed.

elsicava

I don't know where that came from. Star Wars ships have etheric rudders, and can make 180 degree u-turns while preserving most of their momentum.

Orbnet

I think its ment to be a encircling from the hyperspace corridors and them closing the gaps and approaching the planet in a way so Bonteri and his fleet can't escape

Mike222

General Grant against the Confederacy that seems familiar

Mikołaj

I dont know if ships in Star Wars fly into battle comically slow or they can halt and accelerate in reverse direction in 20 seconds. But there is no way that Bonteri first fleet group should be able to come back for a second pass.

Mikołaj

The only problem is that encircling in 3D space is a waste of effort. You would need 10 times more forces and at that point its easier to just attack.

Mrsean22

Well that was fun battle between Grant and Rain. Grant showing his tactical skills but lacking strategic skills currently. While Rain wanted to destroy Grant's fleet he made the best of the situation by destroying half the fleet while the other half can't do much until fixed. Scout trying her best. She did correctly guessed Rain was targeting the other Jedi. Rain doing pretty good job so he might get the planets fleet to support him after this.

Vikaruss

A respectable showing from Grant. Inexperienced compared to his later self but still showing that brilliant mind that would lead him to becoming the only Imperial Grand Admiral to survive the Galactic Civil War and its follow-up.

Tsorov

Thx for the chapter! And nice seeing a competent republic general, even if he has his flaws. Looking forward to him and Bonterri crossing swords again

Trailblazer

Huh, underneath those stuffy, classist exterior, Grant is actually kinda competent at his job. I don't think he would live for long though.

Stav Tri

Nice. Tyftc

Null

Thanks for the chapter They all are going to become wise old man..... Or just the enter an infinite bucle of frog at the bottom of a well.

Dineshraj Dhandapani

Thanks!

Octavian complained mid-chapter to the other Republic COs that they were "missing the forest for the trees." That's an idiom that means you're focusing too much on details ("the trees") at the expense of the overall big picture ("the forest"). In the final scene, Greyshade and Rain discuss Octavian in admiring terms, completing him on his skilled reaction to their attack. When Rain calls Octavian a brilliant tactician but "not the best strategist," Greyshade agrees and says that Octavian missed "the forest" (Rain's overall battle strategy) for "the trees" (brilliantly handling the gambit Rain used against him, w/o having the foresight to not fall for it in the first place).

Dineshraj Dhandapani

Damn, the last line is making me go crazy! Someone smarter than me, please explain!!

windoverwaves

Is fine

elsicava

Sorry for the late chapter, folks.
