Your first point is fair, though I'd argue Anakin was put in the time-sensitive predicament of having to choose whether to argue the specifics with Octavian Grant of their strategy, like Scout was forced to, or whether to drop everything and pursue Ventress, who he believes is going after critical reinforcements for the Seps. I find your second point a bit strange, though. No commander would initiate a battle planning to lose, much less one that's supposed to be a 4-1 gank fight. You can't blame Anakin for not thinking 'oh, maybe I should be here so I will take the fall instead of Scout in the event we eat bricks.' That's awfully defeatist, and unlike him. Also, in the case they do get defeated, someone more prominent like Yularen, or Octavian Grant(!!) is much more likely to be targeted by the media than some no name Padawan. Hell, I can see Anakin taking the fall if they lose anyway for ostensibly 'abandoning the battlefield right before the battle began.'

The Stars Align

Fair point about anikins openness to non Jedi training lessons. But the abandonment I speak of is more the operational failure, the plan to trap rain was his, so he had technical superiority within the fleets. As such it would have been his responsibility to establish/nominate a new main commander, which he didn’t In political terms he’d make a good scape goat for the failure. The commander who fed four fleets peacemeal into the battle hydra while jumping ship. (An untrue and flawed assessment in every respect, but someone’s got to take the blame)

Spicyice101

Well she has a very weak connection to the force, so weak “plot armor”, that is why I beg, cause if any Jedi is going to not have plot armor, it’s her.

Charlie Ives

Does Anakin also think that Scout with her low force sensitivity is the best jedi to fight rain, where he might be one of the worst? If anyone in the Republic know just how disorienting Rain can be for force users it would be Anakin, and I assumed that was driving his decision here.

windoverwaves

And now that she can properly join the skywalker clan, go marry Obi-wan or something, Ventress

syu

Anakin was talking about the Republic perspective. They managed to maul the storm fleet, the Separatist detachment, and greviously injured Ventress. So they won in that sense.

FuschiaKnight

It was from the original RoTS novelization, but it's not as relevant in the Clone Wars content since then.

Mad Max

I certainly don't remember him being a human supremacist in canon. Most likely fanon.

Asharzal

Considering what is going to happen to his species in canon, I think the Geonosians switching camps and stabbing Dooku in the back is only justified, as well as a healthy dose of self-preservation instinct. Also, was Dooku being a human supremacist fanon or legends? Because I think he is.

Mad Max

Seems like they might try to go and flip Poggle.

Yod

Nice update, didnt expect them going for geonosis. I guess they aim for drone codes

MaliMi

Wait, when Anakin said they won, did he meant that the republic won or the separatists won?

AlthePal

I really reaaaallly hope that she didn’t hide the data in her now missing arm xD

Mirrthful

The point Anakin is trying to make is that he isn't Scout's 'only' Master. While other Jedi emphasize the importance of Master-Padawan relationship and thus think it blasphemous for a Master to 'abandon' his Padawan, Anakin took a different approach. Anakin allowed the entire Harbinger be Scout's 'Master.' From Admiral Yularen, the gunnery officers or the sensor chiefs or the communication specialists. Anyone Scout wanted to learn from, Anakin encouraged her. So Scout isn't 'abandoned.' She's only 'abandoned' if you fall into the trap of thinking like a traditional Jedi or Sith. The way Anakin sees it, he left her hands even more capable than his own when fighting someone like Rain: Admiral Yularen and the entire Open Circle Fleet. In the previous chapter, we saw how the conflict between the Jedi and career Navy officers became their collective undoing. Anakin doesn't have to fear that, which is what he told Ventress, precisely because he made sure Scout grew as close to the Navy as possible.

The Stars Align

Very interesting chapter. While I can see what anikin wanted to achieve at lions nebula, I still see it as a Grave personal mistake to abandon his padawan, fleet and operation. It’s just so arrogant to pursue personal vengeance when so many soldiers under his command are at stake, and leave them with no clear leadership. And if he thinks this is a win for him, I hope he’s getting the slap he deserves for his abandonment of his padawan

Rune Shadow

I'm glad Ventress survived, she's such an interesting character that I feel that could have been used so much better than in Canon. Really enjoyed Anakin's and her's back and forth and how Anakin was incredulous that she respected our dear admiral.

Tsorov

Plot armor is just another word for the force

Aeden Emrys

Or Rain will capture her?

Paradoxez Novel Reader

Anakin wank chapter lmao xD

Nanze

Amazing chapter. Love the way the fight is described. Very vivid, punchy, and exciting.

PearsMan

Her cutting of her hand feels symbolic of her also cutting herself off from the force and cannon plan for her. Joining now with the force hole and perhaps becoming machine (which is also deattached from the force)

William M.

I can see Scout surviving if she surrenders or her doing so serves Rain's purposes. Maybe he want's to distract Anakin with a Padawan on a crippled ship, or perhaps he wants to try for another Barriss-style conversion.

William M.

"They won, arguably." Who won? The Separatists who got away? Or the Republic who gave them a beating? This is said by Anakin so I assume the latter...but the former makes more sense to me. So I don't know which!

Max

I don't see any realistic way for her to survive. I'd rather she be dead than escape through plot armour.

Voligne

Anakin isn't a Jedi Knight. He is a Republican, he fights for the Republic and his enemy are the Sepratists. This is probably Palpatines intention, and he won't understand the Jedi Order cooperating with the Sepratists to eliminate the Sith.

Jmc mc

I love the way you handle the war, especially the differing viewpoints. Both sides obviously have issues but the separatists are fighting a war almost entirely by proxy, from at least some of their perspective the republic has to look evil as shit for using fully sapient clones as disposable soldiers compared to their barely sentient droids. Imagine fighting an enemy in an rts game only to later learn that every enemy unit you destroyed was a person who was created expressly to fight you and died that's got to fuck with you head and makes the sep peace faction seem less insane.

Marcin

Well Rain wiped out local Republic fleets got replacement for losses (with bonus dirt on Dooku) and he got a yandere waifu as a crewmember :P

Asharzal

Like I already stated in a different comment, the Republic has been bombarding confederate worlds from orbit since the very beginning of the war.

Asharzal

Ah yeah he and the greater part of the 501st got blasted over Christophsis right?

Asharzal

He's a hypocrite. The Republic was bombarding confederate worlds since the very beginning of the war. Do these planets not count? The Republic tries to keep it's dominance over the Rim and thus it's exploitation of that region in tact. For the Core to prosper, the Rims have to suffer.

LockNesTom

To be honest... I don't think Dooku has them, I don't think Sidious trusted him enough. I think the council has them cause... well... they aren't force users and Sidious can turn their minds to kitty litter

will shumway

Do sev'rance/rain have the droid control codes for the separatist forces yet? I can't remember? I imagine it will play into being able to give dooku the boot.

Mrsean22

Well Ventress is escaping with Rains people with some of the Storm Fleet. With more evidence on Dooku. Honestly surprised Ventress cut her arm off to escape but was the only way without surrendering. Ventress gonna get a robot arm now to match Anakin. Though Anakin thinks he won but Strategically Rain won out.

Mad Max

Well, atleast it's not Fordo.

Mad Max

It was cruel of you to leave out Yah'Dhul and go for a part which could've waited another week. Having said that, maybe not tomorrow if that's difficult, but sometime before Sunday? Iy would be one of those welcome bonuses for us you drop from time to time, but ultimately it's your choice as writer. We can't complain (too much) when you keep writing the literary equivalent of crack.

SpaceFan839

Sidious did a great job of erasing "inconvenient " morels in the CIS. It is probably going to take the shattering of the Republic before the Separatists are able to think about morels again.

Isley

good chappie

Trailblazer

When *Anakin* out of all people has the moral high ground, you know CIS is pretty far deep in ethical event horizon. Peace at the end of blaster barrels it is then for both the Republic and the Confederacy.

Trailblazer

Maybe add a scene where Anakin felt Brand's death?

Jon.

well Rex is fucking dead, so...

axel jensen

anakin is screwed, he lost a lot of ships figthing the storm fleet and now his apprentice is gonna either die or barely escape with her life. Rain will continiue on to the core and then it's all over.

TwoJacksAndAnAce

Great to see more of a deeper look at Ventress. She’s not in a good place right now and Rains the only one who’s giving her an olive branch, I imagine both the Mistryl and Anakin will be in for a surprise when they get back to Yah’Dhul

KnightofTempest

I like how you're showing Anakin and Appo's interactions. Not enough of that in canon. After all, Anakin was quite fond of Commander Appo lol

Spicyice101

Welp, there goes any possibility of getting Anakin to see the non dark side of the separatists as they are. That 22 billion souls man… also, also, I like scout, please don’t kill scout!

Endymion2314

Lol, that ending, No Anakin you did not in fact win, you survived. The Storm Fleet is at least still viable, your Target escaped, and your Padawon might survive, but her fleet certainly will not. You achieved one tactical goal and lost the strategic goals.

Mad Max

“Why are you still holding out? This destroyer doesn’t have a hangar, and without your starship, you’re trapped…” It was at this moment Anakin knew he fucked up.

Dineshraj Dhandapani

Nah man, please write an your own pace. I just wrote the comment as I was thinking of the battle at Yag'dhul the whole week haha.

Mirrthful

Maybe I'll extend the ending tomorrow, since I couldn't fit in Yag'Dhul here? To give the chapter less of an open end.

Mirrthful

Thanks! The Senate hearing will come towards the end, though. For now its all military stuff as the political side had all been covered.

LockNesTom

Loving the story man. Been reading for a while on RoyalRoad but wanted to support ya. I love it. I'm really looking forward to the Senate hearing. I'm hoping Dooku gets the boot. It will be hilarious if Sidious ends up losing control of the beast he created and the Separatists become real lol

Dineshraj Dhandapani

Nice chapter though! I wonder if seppies get the entire fleet of a bit of it

Dineshraj Dhandapani

Noooooooo, I have to wait another week without knowing what's going on at Yag'dhul.

Mirrthful

Okay, so, I wanted to conclude both Llon Nebula and Yag'Dhul in this chapter... but in typical Sublight Drive fashion, I wrote too much for the first part. So it just became an Anakin wank chapter. My bad. I got to write a lightsaber fight scene, though, and I think thats a first in a long time. That being said, this story has a tvtropes page now! Yay! Not that there's much in it, but I'm feeling pretty good about it.
