I'm glad u stuck it out, but also sad that it's comming to a close. Not a lot of stories were the author manages to to finish. More often then not it's a permanent hiatus.

elsicava

Well, I definitely do agree that my style has changed over time. A year ago I was deep in the mil scifi genre, so early Sublight Drive was a lot more 'technical', influenced by Lost Fleet and Honor Harrington. A lot, and I mean a lot, of people told me it was pretty obvious where I drew my inspiration from. Now Sublight Drive has gotten a lot bigger, and so I've since dived into SW novels and the Legend of Galactic Heroes novels to get a hang of the atmosphere I should be writing, which is a lot more 'space opera' and just grander overall. That sort of prose has since infected me too. Also, you mentioning dashes made me realise just how much I used to use dashes in early SD. I used so many dashes that RR reviews would go out of the way to tell me I was using too many dashes lol. I think that was one thing I've consciously cut down on. Anyway, looking back at earlier chapters (urgh) makes the stylistic differences really obvious to me. It's an interesting analysis, especially so as a writer (or just me personally) you don't really notice the change until someone tells you.

Chris

@Trailbrazer It's full of common cliches - LLMs love using metaphors but they're not very unique or very innovative with them (yet) - cooking, weaving, painting, dancing, etc. Another one is "the true meaning is not only X and Y, it also helped me delve into Z" - it loves to keep things balanced. Also a lot of em dashes, punctuation-wise. I'd suggest writing your own snippets/short stories and then pasting them in ChatGPT, Claude or some other LLM and tell them to edit it. After a while, you gain an instinct to notice it's 'voice'.

Chris

@Mirrthfully Thank you and sorry for accusing you earlier, it's just once you know how a LLM 'voice' sounds you begin to see it everywhere. I suppose I've gotten used to your earlier writing voice and your newer 'space opera' didn't sound "authentic" to what my gut/brain remembered?

Varisis

no its palpatine

Bishop7053

Mommy Shaak lives, if she survived Palps there's no way clones are gonna kill her, the Fornce is narrative in nature so you can't survive the big bad just to die to mooks. Therefore shaak is safe and I will ignore her dying in the future cause clearly that's not allowed to happen

Trailblazer

Honestly what even is AI writing style anyway?

William M.

I chuckled at this, I admit. Because Anakin is a bit player in this story. He's not the focus, and is not nearly as important as in cannon. People have been complaning about his abscense for a while now, but that's kinda the point. Or in other words, why waste words writing about someone when nothing of much relevance happened to them?

elsicava

We'll see him soon!

KnightofTempest

You did fine. I would have added Lord Hoth as well, the guy responsible for the Ruusan Campaign that broke the Sith as a major concern till Palps showed up, but that's just me.

PearsMan

Awesome story nonetheless, enjoyed the ride in its entirety

elsicava

1 last chapter and 5 epilogues. Then I plan on taking a long break. This story took a lot outta me gotta admit.

elsicava

I was scratching my head thinking of old Jedi legends to include, especially those with their names passed down through history. Hopefully I included some the well known ones.

elsicava

Maybe lol. I made my own list too, so hopefully I cover all of them in the 5 epilogues!

PearsMan

Hmm on top of my head: The grand scheme of things n force On the seps side: Dooku, assaj, bonteris love, blue lady and what happens to her power n plans, (anakin obi, and their padawan + yoda/shaktiis pov since u started it? Palpatine and it all crumbling down; order 66, corporations after the war, me just personally wanting to know what happens to Bonteri’s droids. You could also include both senates.

elsicava

Hmm... not really? But I admit I have tried using AI a few times in the past, though it doesn't really work. Maybe I've been too influenced by Matthew Stover's writing recently? That, and the LoGH novels. But I seriously like the way they're written, with how more 'space opera' it is compared to the early 'mil scifi' Sublight Drive used to have. (earlier chapters are similiarly influenced by Lost Fleet and Honor Harrington prose) I think someone on SB pointed out as much the recent update. In any case, that is a concern. I don't want the quality of the writing to be affected. Maybe I'll have to reread earlier chapters of this story to infect myself with my old style again lol.

Chris

No offence, but are you using AI to write/edit? The descriptions of the ships, the environments and overall mood these past few updates have a very similar stylistic tone and structure that AI-touched literature seems to have.

KnightofTempest

I always enjoy when Ulic Qel-Droma is namedropped. Gotta represent that Old Republic Style.

Orbnet

It might be that there will be a book 2? Don't know, but the author wrote in a comment that the next chapter is going to be the last with a few sequal chapters

Marcin

How is it coming to a close ? All i see is round 2 with Empire against Separatists and Rebels :D

FuschiaKnight

Rain named them, specifically after a few of his favourite shipgirls from his previous life's time playing Azur Lane (a similar reason holds for a few vessels in his previous flag squadron such as Repulse and Renown).

Orbnet

I find it sad that this story is comming to a close but I feel the need to ask, do you have any plans for future stories?

Triangulum

I think he's down south fighting the Tombmaker with Scout if I recall correctly

Peter

Great question, knowing palpatine's manipulations he's definitely on Coruscant. That would separate Anakin from his former master and the trap of the Jedi Expedition, the question is where he's with the Chancellor or padme. I think that would be the critical difference for if he falls or not.

Peter

The tension is palpable!

nugitoBambino

I think he's just at another warfront. he wasn't on corussant at the time this was going down I donn't think?

TwoJacksAndAnAce

Getting chills from this damn.

pangoid

Presumable, because of Rain Bonteri

Ewout

I have a feeling you’ll get a list of plot points to be filled the moment you upload the next chapter

Ewout

How many chapters are still left?

Loah

Where in the hell is Anakin? Did he turn?

Rasmus

Wait, why are spaceships named after American War of Independence battles?

BigBillyWilly

I'm getting some real Alamo vibes here, here's hoping things don't end up the same way. Thank you for the chapter!

elsicava

Like what?

PearsMan

Wait we already are at the end? Loved This story but That’s quite a few plots still left open unless this gonna be a big chapter

tianzigamer X

Good chapter, tension is rising.

Duke of Coffee

Hopefully the Younglings make it out, slaughtering of children is a war crime... Anyway Vinoc fleet will find a way around the blockade...

elsicava

There's 5 epilogues.

Napoleon III

What ? One chapter isn’t enough. There are so many loose ends tie

Ivy Hedera

Oh really? I expected like, four more chapters maybe? Good to know though

elsicava

He's a general.

Mrsean22

Only two hours in? Man must feel like forever for the Jedi in the temple. Barris is doing all she can so if nothing else some can escape. Now it's a waiting game to see if help can get there in time. Then there is Vinoc having to get by the Republic fleet in orbit to even get to the Jedi. Going with the distraction route but gonna be down to luck.

gergenspan

I feel like Horn Ambigene is now the most infamous admiral. Tombmaker isn't a moniker one gets at a convenience store.

elsicava

I mean next chapter is the last chapter, so i guess your wish is granted?

DA_Johan_Bishop

>>The so-called ‘help’ that was en route would hardly put her fellow Jedi at ease. Separatist warships, loaned to her by the most infamous admiral to ever serve the Confederacy, were hardly the saviors they would expect.<< :D Yes

Man-O'-War

It’s interesting to think about how in the Jedi’s greatest hour of need it will be former members of the AgriCorps the washouts will be the ones who answer the call

Trevor Perry

Very different order 66. Tyftc

Ivy Hedera

I will get genuinely upset if this tension gets extended more than two more chapters. It's too much

Trailblazer

And the Siege has finally began! Vinoc becoming the would-be saviour of the Temple Jedi is peak irony. He has to be a grandmaster after this to complete his zero-to-hero journey.

M0och

Oh wow! Shark Ti is alive! And Aaron big a badass as ever!

B R

Betrayal hammers upon knighthood's anvil: time to see with cracks first.
