As someone who came at this from the opposite direction (watched the first season and then looked up some of the comic), I can vouch for it. First, the characters are actually layered and interesting, with Homelander and "The Female" being standouts, but pretty much everyone is improved. Additionally, it doesn't fall into the trap the comic does, of thinking it needs to get to "the good stuff" RIGHT AWAY. Turns out, if you're good at character writing, anything can be "the good stuff"! Also, this is very subjective, but I think the show's edginess comes with actual commentary that is saying something, whereas I'd agree: the comic was edgy for edgy's sake.

All this The Boys talk makes me wonder if I should watch the show. I read the comics a bit a few years back, but I thought it was some of the most try-hard edgelord bullshit I've ever read. The show sounds more ambitious, though.

Chiming in: I've had friends who surf Northern California in the winter (which is nothing like the Southern California most people think the whole state is). Frigid water and stony beaches. You are ALL crazy.

I'm a surfer in Nova Scotia and we surf all year. Including in the middle of winter. Yes its cold and yes we are idiots.
