Erick Thiemke

the first is always the easiest. Eryk got his first in Legion training. as for the studying part...he is doing that to imprint the best version of the spell form he wants rather than get some random version of it

Aspiring Sage

Question ARAO, how come these outworlders are able to imprint so many spells without studying. Eryk had to study very hard to get his dimensional space. Just wondering if you have an explanation for that? Is it just the intensity of the past 3 months for them? Specially the dimentionalspace imprinting needs some explanation as that was not really under duress, just a desire.

HappyNoms

On the famous quote about the road to hell, I was at a play once where they were riffing on the line with the also quite memorable: "The road to hell is paved in any way that you like."

brett simon

Again, not a fan of the refugee arc….its like that damn demonic bowl that is to “curious” to destroy…necromancer = bad…even if it’s a cute kid

Erick Thiemke

Anyone lower than 71. It is explained when you read further

Jaimenz

Erick Thiemke

it is needed to not turn to ash when passing through the World Gates

Karnnie

Evie could also make a space for herself. Perhaps it is because they are kids but, why does Eryk have so many High affinities when he first got brought here but the kids dont have many at all? Is it life experiences, age, or something to do with how they came to be on Desia?

Karnnie

Eryk had his core sealed so that he could let it heal after he cracked it. I wonder if the same person would be able to place a seal over just one affinity? That way she would be locked out of it unless it was removed.

Cypha

I'm still salty about them immediately killing the orc necromancer. There was quite a lot of potential just put down the drain. To be fair taking him with them would have been quite complicated and just leaving him there absolutely reckless. Still...

Erick Thiemke

see comments....I am probably going to use the dimensional space explanation in a rewrite (Lexi sees his and makes her own inferior one)

Cypha

Isn't the girls resistance way too low to resist Eriks "storage"? I remember it was explained somewhere and believe it should be way higher.

Medhanie Kidane

What does the world's rare magic do?

T

I feel like Erik is getting dumbed down or reduced his outspokenness or is consciously being ignorant and we’re not getting the introspection to understand that. If an explanation is incoming in the plot please ignore but his character seemed to question Castile more when she was his commanding officer compared to equals now and also more paranoid to question the unsaid. Hoping it’s just getting glossed over for the immediate plot.

MacMahon Wenzl

At least she doesn't have materialism. She could create things and then turn them undead somehow. Also how is Raelia going to feel when she learns about her two new stepdaughters?

Erick Thiemke

they are just learning faster. also Castile is trying to "relearn" how to manipulate aether using Lesna's method. It is like trying to walk everwhere backwards for her

Erick Thiemke

this tablet reader does not have a secondary affinity listing. I might have made a mistake in the books including it in some places.

Erick Thiemke

most mages use any affinity to increase their ability to collect aether from the environment, jusicing their channeling

Erick Thiemke

yes she could. also one of the books is supposed to be a trip to teh Isle of the Dead where there is a lich who might/ or might not be from the First Legion

Alias

Just read the rest of the comments. I like the idea of having a space storage being a reason you cannot be spaced. (No spaces within space). Maybe add a line in this chapter about how she tried to experiment with “normal” Earth magic like making a rabbit/rock or flower disappear and she accidentally imprinted a super inferior space. Like the size of a coffee mug or something.

Erick Thiemke

probably if she learned a spell to do so, something like "Subborn Undead's Will"

Erick Thiemke

no, but it will be explained somewhat when they meet the Matron. What basically happens when they are are portaled their core is awakened and their latent magics are forced open. The "magic radiation" is what opens their rare affiniites. THe rest of their affinities are what they would have had if they grew up in Desia but "juiced" from the transport. For instance, Evie's 92 necromancy might have only been in the 60s if she was born on Desia and she would not have awakened till just after puberty like normal. Eryk came alone so he got a lot more "magic radiation" than those in the groups which is why his rare magics are high. if he was born on Desia he would have had a modest space affinity, and low healing and potechtion affinities.

Alias

I think her Aether resistance is too low. If she can resist being Spaced, should she have at least 71 in resistance?

Gyatzilla

Question. As other worlders shouldn’t at least one of their Rare Affinities be higher? I thought that was a defining characteristic.

Simão Wiborg de Carvalho

So... If Evie is such a powerful necromancer, can she controls the wraiths on the cursed city, near the Shimmering Labirinth?

Cameron Lindner

If things go the way I'm thinking, long form, the necromancer is going to be essential.

PatronTurtle

She's literally capable of ending all life on the planet. If humans are able to become liches in this world, it's very likely she can become one

Salvo

Both have a small affinity in convergence, is that useful for “detect magic”? as I seem to remember the low level is like ley line sense or something. Which is GREAT for finding dungeons.

Salvo

Celestial is “buff” magic, which is my guess. Earth did have a visible strength boost spellform, which could be seen in the duel in book 3. She seems to have it always on though. I’m also wondering if convergence can channel magic to power the body, because it can channel to boost spells

Steve

Not so much that they lose control but more that they are just way too powerful if they want to be. It was mentioned earlier in the novel that something like 10 or 20% of the entire world was overrun by hostile undead created by previous necromancers and that many kingdoms had fallen to a single necromancer with a grudge.

Jeffrey Worrall

What affinity is Karina using for her super punch? I looked through all of them and I’m not seeing an obvious candidate, maybe earth.. not sure.

Jon

Yeah, the kids are getting a little too chummy for my liking

Jon

I think it’s time a hard real world adult decision is made here. I think it would be kind of a cop out if they somehow just stumble on the right answer and everyone walks away happy. That’s a little lame IMO

NovaZero

I take it Affinity has to be close to primary to register as secondary? What is primary and secondary anyway? Does it mean more than just being high in that affinity?

Wiggles1

Something akin to Mind Fortress but more general & therefore less efficient. She was running it unconsciously due to stress from the battle.

Wiggles1

She could have a Protection affinity with a spell form that bumps up her effective resistance stat

gaell

aaaa that's good

Chachi

id ice her tbh too dangerous and easily corruptible especially the savages in shinyuet like the matron could use her. but since eryk is mr wholesome reddit chungus she lives…

Erick Thiemke

A dimensional space can not go inside another dimensional space

gaell

No, that's weak — it only has 14 space. A spell that could withstand Erick should require at least 40 or 50.

David Weller

Easy, Eryk's mana pool is too small to overcome the resistance. He COULD put her in his space if he had the mana to compensate for her extra resistance. At least that's how I always interpreted it with how you describe it. Whenever Eryk can overcome someone's resistance, he always comments on how low his mana is, but he is otherwise fine. If he can't overcome someone's resistance, he always talks about how he is almost concussed or drunk from losing so much mana, and he has to actually recover from it. To me, that just means his mana is at literal zero. Just my take.

Justin Barnett

If I understand right, the dangers of necromancer’s is that if they can create permanent undead, there is a risk of them losing control. They undead can then create more undead by killing the living, which becomes a disaster.

John Doe

Can she just burn her channels by casting spells repeatedly until she can never cast magic again? With severely burnt channels, she may cast spells every now and then, but it won't be enough to create a giant undead army. Also, if the girls have better shaping skills than Castille, wouldn't their current skills be higher?

Erick Thiemke

that is a good idea - top of the list

Justin Barnett

Maybe you could have Lexi already imprinted a space spellform. Something that prevented Eryk from storing her.

Erick Thiemke

yeah - i know - she should have around a 70ish aether to resist his space...I am aware it fails the world consistency test. need a reason I have not thought of yet

Erick Thiemke

too many tables in this chapter already. plus Eryk is distracted

Erick Thiemke

too many tables in this chapter already. plus Eryk is distracted

Justin Barnett

Since Eryk already has the tablet out, why not have him use it too?

Ivan Kanewske

Table was out, Surprised you didn't have Eryk check his again

gaell

with this ether resistance, has it already resisted the protagonist's inventory?

Justin Barnett

Not quite the same. Castile was hoping to use Lexi for her cause. Eryk was trying to figure out how much danger Evie is in and the risks associated of what she can do.

Andrew

Thank you!

Jeff Kollada

Funny how he tempers Castile with Lexi but he's doing as similar thing with Evie. Good intentions stat out good but don't always stay good. Curious to see how this plays out
