BeanerOO

Oh nice, chapter 1's out.

BeanerOO

Okay HOLD UP. Cyte sees the thing Vekorax left on him that will eventually kill him as a simple "hole" and HOPS INSIDE IT?!?!?! What sort of connection does this suggest between voidcytes and the place they come from and Vekorax and whatever it is? Also, HOW does entering the hole allow him to see Cale's shadow? So many questions, so much setup, I LOVE IT! MOOOOAAAAARRRRRR

Forint

It's kinda obvious how he'll deal with Vekorax. He'll... Just Add Mana.

Art Dragon

Lots of interesting threads to follow here. Your story has a great polish to it that you should be proud of. Don’t burn yourself out, and take care. ❤️

Cole

I wonder if dragons becoming realm born is because their original "myth" no longer exists with earth/humans being forgotten and why Sisyphus now has more free reign as a named.

Dajer

This was a very interesting chapter. We learned more about Akkau and the confirmed fact of how all powerful beings have an opposite "Shadow" that can be seen by beings like the Cyte. The fact the Black Scale is a "Hole" that would allow Cyte to show him what the Shadow is, is absolutely fascinating. And i cant wait for Akkau to call Cale up and have him explain things

Conviviacr

The Thread of Fate/ "Consequences Due to Acts of Cale" (CDAC) strikes again! I kinda hope that it isn't Cale that Bitch Slaps Vekorax but Cyte gets a taste for it and learns how to process Vekorax. Then enjoys a Vekorax sized snack or devours the binding framework or whatever is holding Vekorax together (and I suspect the dragons cores that it has devoured). I do wonder with the revelation Dragons were originally mythologies if this is a consequence of them breaking free of that.

Tony (Tragia)

I don't know... I think that Cyte letting the info slip about the Greater Realms all being a part of Cale's shadow is kind of a huge revelation.

Tony (Tragia)

Either that or Cale is in some way the origin of all of the Greater Realms.

Ben Bass

TYFTC! That was awesome, and what a way to end book 1! I do love how Cyte has been able to literally help out Akkau at least two fold - showing what Cale's 'shadow' is, as well as blithely mentioning that the black scale is a 'hole', which makes a lot of sense. I do believe that Cale's shadow is the being that followed him through into this Realm. Now what can Akkau do with this knowledge, and how much can/will he pass on to Cale?

Michelle Goodman

I have a feeling that Cale is involved somehow in this.

Michelle Goodman

I love how we all know that it’s Cale’s fault.

Jason Gross

I wonder if the existential-threat-consuming monster-under-the-bed sub variety was initially spawned by some being with a nightmare about a severe existential crisis involving strawberries and pineapples and their taste...

Jason Gross

I would love to get a bit more detail about what sorts of restrictions bind mythologies. (I think right around "As far as Akkau was aware, it was something that had happened, with no particularly remarkable event to explain their transition." or "To become divine was to take up the trappings of belief once more. What would the point of their initial ascension be, if they simply took on the same chains that mythology had once brought upon them?" would be a great place to be a bit more concrete, e.g., did Akkau realize immediately when the transition happened? How did he discover it? What was the most significant or earliest action taken as realmborn that could not have been taken as mythology? What chain(s) is Akkau most averse to taking on? (Or is there no chain in particular, and it's just anthama to a dragon to be chained in any way?)).

InfernalDrake

To be fair, path of pain is called such for a reason. It’s unnecessary, but it will train you to be very, very good at platforming.

Hayden Hodge

That’s what I said to ur mom. Boom roasted. Genuinely sorry about that, couldn’t keep it to myself in this one.

clagann

Its criminal to have this kind of cliffhanger as an ending to a book tbh

Maximus

So is Cyte saying that Cale is so unbelievably huge in terms of supernatural presence that all that's visible to mundanes is the shadow his ineffable power casts onto a realm?

Pete Magnuson

Big dad-who-didnt-want-a-cat vibes, except the cat casually mentions that your new buddy is actually a lion and dives into your hole.

Pferdi

That autor note mentioning path of pain triggered my holllow knight ptsd

Apoca

That's what Akkau get for messing with other's ritual instead of creating his own. Two requirements, two being was summoned.

Lurker

“ah, but you have a hole! Perfect. We will use the hole" The dragon should be filled with mortal terror at those words….

Cole

I feel like this chapter doesn't have your normal level of "revelation" that your last couple chapter of your books have. Maybe I just don't get the "hole" twist or the shadow of the star twist. Edit: still liked the chapter, just something I noticed

Apoca

"As far as Akkau was aware, it was something that had happened, with no particularly remarkable event to explain their transition." Cale, what did you do?

ShyviaAngel

Ohhh damm tease cliffhanger small hint ahhh quite an ending to this book
