Kalliope

This was a great chapter. I like seriousness more than comedy because of more character growth, but both are excellent in this story! :D TFTC!

Kalliope

My thought exactly. The last of humankind. No wonder he was so sad - this entity is like a child he can distinctly relate to.

Silver Linings

Fixed it, thank you!

William Keith

Great chapter! Also quick note “The first entire first ten, for instance…” should be cleared up a bit, not sure if it should be “The first ten, for instance…” or something like “The entire first tapestry showed”. Not sure

"So most of the Abyssal Ones are the last of their kind. They aren't evil, but they can't live in any of the Great Realms anymore. Their very presence corrupts things and breaks the laws of physics and the rules of magic" Does that mean Cale is an Abyssal too ?

Silver Linings

Didn't get the chance to say this last time (because after I asked I realized I couldn't reply without spoiling a bunch), but I wanted to say, you got a lot of the broad strokes right! Thanks for reading.

Silver Linings

Those are very kind words, thank you! I'm really happy with how this chapter came out, and I'm always aiming to improve, so I hope I can get to this level consistently. That's the goal, anyway.

Silver Linings

You're welcome to pick my brain anytime! Rambling about writing is one of my favorite things to do. Sometimes I forget I'm not supposed to do it all the time. And thank you very much! I love figuring out the monsters, and this series has probably been the most fun foray into worldbuilding yet.

I have throughly enjoyed this story to the point of subscribing to your patreon, despite the fact I rarely ever do so. But this chapter is head and shoulders above anything else from this series. The barely controlled anger, the contempt for the loomweavers, how the other characters despite not understanding are still sympathetic to his angst. I know this chapter required a lot of build up and character development to make, but if you could make every chapter as impactful as this one you would be reknown world wide. You would make make jk Rowling look like a hack. I am not trying to be ridiculous but I have read this chapter 3 times already and is one I am going to save and read every time I try to write something because this is a golden standard for writing in a fantasy setting. When you can not only sympathize and understand the protagonist but also feel the same emotion and outrage towards what in most media would just be a monster is truly masterful

Gingiberry

same here, I haven't watched that episode in so long but I was remembering it vividly during this chapter

Mr.Turtle

Thanks for the chapter!

[The World Is A Stage]

I was totally thinking of The Beast Below when reading this so it's funny seeing it in the note at the bottom lol

There’s one rule and that is, you don’t hurt the innocent minds of the youth. And they broke that rule with the abyssal.

BeanerOO

I LOVE your take on "monsters" in this series. It was true in your last and continues to be in this and I can't get enough. There's always more to the story, and despite how things look, they often aren't truly "evil". Depending on what your definition of true evil is, it could be argued that there is no such thing, only differing lived realities and the narratives we create. I'm also a fan of the image of the Great Realms and the spaces between them and the layout of the multiverse in general. Did I mention that the idea of a character that is innately a being of decay that desperately wishes they could heal things has such a tragic beauty to it? And should that tragedy blossom into an actualization of their inner truth? I love your characters. Wish I could pick your brain haha

Aaron

A surprisingly serious moment in an otherwise mostly lighthearted story, but not at all unwelcome for that. I like it.

Apoca

He wants to use Decay Bite but I'm actually really curious about Taunt evolving into a 12th tier spell

Michael Larsen

Yeah, I immediately thought of the 11th Doctor. He is MY Doctor.

ShyviaAngel

Somehow author you managed to get my eyes a bit teary

Col Adamson

i kind of get the feeling that cale at one point, WAS once an abyssal one, was chained by a rule(possibly persistence) and thats why as in the blurb for the story says he has lived to many lives to count, he's still somewhat bound to the rule to persist

Rheklr

That was incredible!
