TYFTC! Fila is such a gentle soul, I think she will wind up with a wonderful menagerie of critters, and I wonder if she will ever get to speaking terms with the Leviathan... I can't wait until we find out more about Threek and his magic, and where and how he(they?) fit in to. the world with the Gift. Now, is Cale off to mee with the divinity that is/created the Gift?

Aaaahhhh Flia. I'm glad you brought her in for this. Everyone has had a moment where they have had a chance to see their magic in a new light. I think this might have been the cementing moment for Flia and I love it. I'm such a sucker for deeply empathetic moments like these.

I’m starting to suspect that this entire world/realm/etc is a giant trap designed to trap Cole. Think “The Pandorica.” Not I’m imagining some guy or gal in a worn cloak, showing up in a couple hundred chapters, showing up with their book and looking around: “You tried to do WHAT? Yeah, I’m catching a ride off of this plane. I’ll be back in a few hundred thousand years to see what’s left.” And then they stomp away with their book, muttering that now would be a good time to take a vacation.

Michael Larsen

And that’s exactly why both friends and foes will do everything in their power to prevent it! 😂

I love the idea that there is a former dark lord, out there who travels round to realm following kale, cataloging everyone’s grievances, quotes and threats against him. And he is one massive book with every story about kale and everything he should not do and you should not do if you meet him. And he’s always one realm behind him and he’s always preaching. Not to kill him to simply what not to do. With quotes from some of the most famous and deadly dark lords of all time. Because Kyle is about to do a long life after who knows how long he might have time to catch up.

That small fun fact opens a whole can of worms! Just imagine what kinda eventful moment it be with a whole universe having Cale clones popping up in quadrillions amount all over !

MrNobody

I'm so curious if Cale will get to "speak" to the leviathan about the obvious gap between his current situation and if he'll learn anything about the apparent era gap between his knowledge of the great realms before, versus now.

You could be right, but based on the lines regarding how he is best at lying to himself and forcing a smile, I get the feeling that he is the one the destroyed Yggdrasil. Likely not because he wanted to but as a necessity due to that major war he mentioned in passing in an earlier chapter. Something that to this day he regrets having to do

Mr.Turtle

It is! The God of Magic created The Gift to be a benevolent one for the people. All magic follows rules Like Cale has stated multiple times and The Gift is inherently magic. I imagine one of the limitations in The Gift is that while it can give the relatively safe and structured spell construction to someone, even if it could take those away, it can't take the mana away. All someone would need to do is either the same thing they did to get the spell before or something similar enough.

Mr.Turtle

Hmmm...One nickname invlolves Yggdrasil...according to The Gift Yggdrassil no longer exists...Cale quite literally has "too much" mana...he hasnt been able to stop existing albeit he has died too mamy times too count. 🤔 Either I'm way off or Cale is Yggdrasil. Thanks for the chapter!

To put it simply this was truly beautiful. I wish we could have seen the abyssal from the other points of view. But that’s part of the allure of dealing with an unknowable unfathomable entity, seeing only a small portion of it and trying to apply our limited understanding of how reality works to it. I am loving Flia so much more than I expected from their introduction, but also quietly grieving them already. A character like this that is so empathetic and caring is doomed to have a tragic life, even nothing bad happens to them directly. The amount of suffering they are going to go through just because they sympathize and care for the creatures/beings that others will simply call monsters.

Michael Larsen

That fun fact just killed me…

Apoca

I find it interesting that the Gift cannot simply take away [Fangs of the Festering Fields], it can only give a warning. "I gave you this, don't user it ever again"

Pinpenny the great lithian

Those spontaneous furnace liquidation incidents really are something. So sad nothing can be done about them.
