I’m hoping that his new friends will give him an entirely new perspective that may make it so that he can at the very least give his old friend a peaceful death. Sometimes new ideas come from people who don’t have any concept of how things are supposed to work. I hope that they can give Cale some comfort.

TYFTC! Ooof, that is brutal. Too bad Cale can't pump up the power and feed it into the ritual and use the flicker ant queens to gather enough mana and heal the mage. I do wonder if being around Vital's resting place could help with that.

Ah. fate worse than death endless scattered agony my beloved. clear inspiration from an scp whose number i don’t remember but with a similar premise without the magic hurricane. I also like how even dark lords dissent on using it. It’s wrong from basically any moral angle. Except racists, of course.

Thank you for the wonderful chapter as always, Silver :) As tough as it is to wait for the next chapter, I do appreciate the emotional buildup and context you're setting up here. On another note, I have some constructively critical feedback on this particular chapter if you're interested. Otherwise, thanks again. I love your work! There are choices you make in your stories that inspire me in the best ways - "I'm whoever the fuck I want to be" In my own work, my chars haven't quite made it to the point that such realizations and proclamations have begun to really take root yet, but I'm looking forward to it.

Spoiler for this chapter ahead: The Aspect Cascade doesn't erase souls, it inverts them, causing death. I think when Silver says at the end that Cale feels the power to erase a soul, it isn't referring to the Aspect Cascade, but to Cale himself. I think this is part of why doing this kind of thing over and over weighs so heavily on Cale. His only means of ending such atrocities is likely to kill the victim... again. The torment may finally end, but in the process, the victim will not be able to understand. All they will know is that it's happening again and their suffering is being compounded. God I hope there's no part of that poor person's soul still capable of begging for mercy.

Silver Linings

Yes, and it'll be discussed in more depth in the next chapter! But the gathering aspect of the storm is both to gather power for it and to gather the remnants of the mage's soul; Cale can only do the former.

Awesome chapter but mean cliffhanger! I'm really curious to read further of this... Darker more serious Cale. He's an awesome character and I can't wait to find out more details about his past. This whole series is amazing and I'm glad I found it! 🤩♥️

This, this kind of sacrificial magic is horrible. If it was done to Vital, Cale has every right to be extremely angry. I wonder how he will stop it

Apoca

Is there a reason Cale cannot simply provide the power to complete the healing ritual?

Tftc!

KipBR

Nah, he needs to save vital.
