Naaah, not 80 km. More like 3 km, but still, you got a point ;) Just think of preemptive evacuation. Plus the drenics can be told where they can step and where not and being the sweetheart she is, Julia abides by those restrictions.
I still don't understand how exactly that's possible. Each foot is around 80 km in length and humans can't exactly teleport out of the way. How they survive is still a mystery to me.
