Tech Update: SoundPad Accessibility
🕑 Added 2025-06-06 18:29:50 +0000 UTCGreetings Patrons,
I got an email last week from a blind user who said he used to be able to access SoundPads using screen reader software, but was now unable to. I didn't think I had changed anything, but then realized that when I removed the way-too-long drop down menu (34 items) of SoundPad links in favor of a single menu page, I had accidentally killed that feature.
With his help I made some adjustments to the code of the SoundPad launch page and got it working again with screen readers. Other than that, it should be unnoticeable.
I did some research to see if it might be possible to convert the home page in this way but it quickly became apparent that it is a way more complex beast.
In other tech news I'm making progress on crossfading tracks on the ambience player. This has been a complex undertaking but I finally saw daylight a few days ago. I'll update you all soon.
Best,
Tim

Amazing work! It's a very important topic and I'm glad to see it being considered by you :) If you ever need help with the a11y topic, I'm working as a System Developer with a strong focus on web accessibility for a few years now. Of course the best people to ask for feedback are the ones with actual disabilities but still I would be glad to help or answer some questions :)
