I remember when my oldest Great Aunt, who had dementia, would sometimes forget her husband had passed. She eventually had recollection, because she would talk about some long-term memory with him, and she'd say, "But I think he's been gone for a while." So, so heartbreaking.

Maggots are actually probably one of the best things they could have found in that cast. They quite possibly saved his arm from infection.
