Thompson SMG Cases: Police, FBI, and Secret Service (Ad-free)
🕑 Added 2022-11-03 13:00:05 +0000 UTCThe Auto Ordnance company made a couple different types of cases for the Thompson SMG, and today we are going to look at two of the most common and one exceptionally cool type. The two most typically found are the Police and FBI cases. Both other these hold the gun along with the detached stock, one drum, and four box magazines. The Police type has the drum and box mags separated for balance and was lined with purple velvet; the FBI cakes was generally blue velvet and had all the magazines on the left (making it balance poorly).
The other case we have today is one fabricated by the Secret Service for one of its protective details. This is a flat-lying wooden case, which holds the gun, stock, and four box magazines - no drums for the Service.

The Secret Service and FBI ones are being sold as just the cases Lot 2042 for the FBI; 2060 for the SS). There is also a Thompson being sold with a police case in lot 2052, although it's not that same case that I had in the video.

Minor bit of nit to be picked - Thompsons won't fit in most Violin Cases, you have to use a Cello Case. As a webgear freak, I really get into this sort of thing. I don't have much Thompson gear, but I know a Collector who has the canvas Cavalry Case for saddle mounting.

The 30 round mags were introduced by the Army during WW2; the original Colt magazines were XX (20 rd box), L (50rd drum) and C (100 rd drum).

fancy. the velvet is the bomb. with 5 mags would maybe better had some mag pouch. kind of a pattern, huh. that police is kind of smarter than feds. maybe too heavy and not the best ever but man do thompsons look great.
