Apocrypha: Behind the Scenes Feb 12, 2023
🕑 Added 2023-02-12 22:30:01 +0000 UTCI've spent this week at the Morphy auction company in Pennsylvania, filming a whole series of videos for you guys. As usual, my main focus was on machine guns (including a Vollmer VMP-1930, a DShK-38, a Sten Mk4(S), and an MG-3) but also supplemented by antiques and C&R type arms. So I also covered a Short Land Pattern Brown Bess (marked to a regiment that was in the American War of Independence), a Confederate Tallassee carbine, and much more. I'm filming this from a hotel in Springfield MA, where I will be doing some filming and photography this coming week at the Springfield Armory National Historic Site.

Too bad! I've been fascinated by the TKB022 ever since I first saw a picture of it. My first question was of course, how do the rounds get fed into the chamber?

Unfortunately, the only example I know of is in a Russian military museum - so not much chance of me getting hands on it and time soon.
Kerwin Kerr
Ian, could you do a video on the Soviet Korobov TKB022?
Kerwin Kerr
Ian, I noticed some of your fans call you Gun Jesus. Is this okay?
Chris Alexander
You forgot Valentines Day!? Tour wife is REALLY going to make you pay for that.
Kerwin Kerr
Thanks a lot, Ian. I figured you'd know the answer!
Christian
that's what I want to know too.

I'll try to make the meetup tomorrow, hopefully your armory visit goes well. I assume you'll be working with Alex M over there, he's a great guy and a really talented competition shooter as well. Scott G is another great guy I hope you'll have the chance to meet. It's been notoriously difficult for researchers to get into the collection there and simply "browse" for interesting stuff, so I've got my fingers crossed that you'll be able to overcome some of the roadblocks that have plagued other's I've talked to.

Ian, I put this question up on my Quora Feed: Why did the designers at General Motors Inland Division use a proprietary single feed magazine for the M3 Grease Gun and didn't use the Thompson magazine which has the superior double feed magazine? However, no one has yet given a good answer.

if that's only the 1st "start" (hopefully) @ springfield man you'll be the A LOT.

What did I miss about Rock Island?

An actual War of Independence Brown Bess is just the most attractive catnip for me.

Have fun in the Armory. Keep the embers burning for when Othias can get up there for the fabled 1911 episode.

I can't wait to see that Kyper pass Webley. I wonder if it's like my Kyper pass CLLE Enfield looks legit 10ft away but when you look closer there's little details that are just wrong.

I have the game on, but muted while I watch this and other videos. Looking forward to Tuesday!
David Morris
Not at all. You explained without drama, which is the best outcome. Thanks.

The owner and I had a personal disagreement - they would still be willing to have me there, but under conditions that I'm not willing to work under. Sorry if that's still rather cryptic, but I'd rather not air a lot of laundry in public.
Will Sanders
I was wondering the same thing and if I missed it. They do have their own YouTube channel and I wonder if they want to try to grow that without Ian.
David Morris
Same question as David C. What happened to Rock Island. Can you say without causing drama?
David C
Why no more Rock Island? Did they shut down?
The Springfield Armory museum is truly amazing. I have only ever seen the parts open to the general public. I can only imagine what the collection behind closed doors must be like! See you Tuesday!
Nicholas White
Ian, completely ignoring the superbowl and Valentines day for the IMPORTANT stuff.

We all know you’re trying to bring in a looker with a eye for big guns this Tuesday, hehe.💪🏻
Very cool, I just booked a trip to visit Harper's Ferry. Springfield is a little too far for this one but I'd like to get there sometime also.
