MG-3: Germany Modernizes the Classic MG-42 (ad-free)
🕑 Added 2023-04-07 12:00:01 +0000 UTCWhen the Bundeswehr was formed, it chose to simply continue using the MG42 as its standard GPMG. This was initially done by converting older MG42s to 7.62x51mm NATO as the MG1 (adopted in 1958), but progressed to production of a brand new version of the gun by Rheinmetall (adopted in 1968). The MG3 included improvements to the belt feed system, added integral antiaircraft sights, and allowed a rate of fire between 700 and 1300 rpm depending on the choice in bolt, buffer and booster. It was the standard German MG until finally being replaced by the MG5 in 2012 - and it is/was in use by nearly 4 dozen other countries as well. Today we are going to compare this transferrable, C&R MG3 to an original MG42 to see the improvements that were made.

No, not really. Virtually nobody actually watches on Rumble, despite how many people ask for it. I've got it set up to copy content form YouTube, but I don't plan to spend the time to directly upload anything to Rumble.

Ian, I went to Utreon to watch the full auto video and noticed that you have to pay a monthly fee to watch any video in anything other than potato quality 240p. Since I’m already a supporter on Patreon, can you tell me if you will be dropping Patreon in favor of Utreon? I would like to continue supporting your channel, but a Utreon isn’t cheap along with a Patreon. Thx.

Great presentation, as usual. I wish you would have shown my favorite feature which is the quick barrel change. I hope you were able to do an episode on the botched US attempt to replicate the MG42 in .30-06. Both prototypes are at Springfield Armory. I very much believe that the MG42 series is far superior to the M60.

only beltfed I ever knew alas. utterly reliable clunky not greatest ergonomics ever deseigned but... if it only would have a nice 450rd/min rate. still one of the best I assume.

Plus the MG3 is still in use (and will stay so for quite a few years to come). The mounts for Tanks and APC‘s don’t except the MG5.

Actually there’s a little mistake: MG1 where newly built ones. MG2 where rebuild MG42 (with the 4 overstamped), than came the MG1A3 (upgrades) and finally the MG3 (new builds and upgrades from older ones).
