I think you are being generous to the control freaks. I think they let go of the mandate because it doesn't exist anyway. The existence of this technology will lead to mandates. Look at the ossified gun list in California, mandated forever... Stupid is the strongest force in the universe. It is everywhere all the time like entropy, always progressing.

I understand the objections, and obviously it's not suitable for everyone - but this, very importantly, is no longer one of them. There is no legislative tripwire that this triggers.

On designs where multiple people can be enrolled in the gun, yes - you could include anyone you want.

What a waste of time. New Jersey is a lost shithole, like California. Really, F them. Smart guns are Not... If the gun only can be shot by me and I go down, can my wife or son pick it up and return fire? In Police or LEA use-cases, can a comrade pick up my weapon and return fire if their weapon goes down?

I did a quick BioFire search. Apparently it is fingerprint recognition based. I think the fact that Apple has been there, done that, and moved on will kill that idea.

This can only be bad. Even if it is never perfected it will be used by the anti-gunners to further harass lawful gun owners. Remember Micro Stamping? Require guns to stamp a unique mark on all fired cartridge cases. Require manufacturers to maintain a file of fired cases for every gun they produce. Adds much to the cost to consumers with no apparent good. New York included a Micro Stamping provision in it's infamous SAFE Act. Crime has doubled since then. Trust me, anti gun lunatics will demand this on all guns made as soon as possible. Then just a short jump to banning all non-conforming guns.

You can argue that rights in fact exist and that states shouldn't violate them, but people have been doing that all along and it is known by now to fall on deaf ears. It's better to argue that laws based on possession of something so easily made literally just rely on people abiding by the honour system and that there then is no use in passing further laws of this type. So laws requiring everyone to have smart guns aren't necessarily coming.

No, we're saying the way most governments implement gun control is fundamentally immoral and indefensible. Also, the Shinzo Heater requires no 3D printing, you could make a gun like that in the 1950s with a trip to just about any hardware store in the world.
