When Russia invaded Ukraine, we had not yet gotten many of the essential photos of guns in Russian military museums. With the sanctions now in place, we have no way to get those photos, nor to effectively work with the author - so the book is on indefinite hold until the diplomatic world situation changes.

Can't forget the Police Positive-hopefully a Police Positive Special-with a "sawn barrel" under his pillow (maybe a Fitz). And a "long barreled .45 Army Special"--likely a Colt New Service in .455 Eley--in his late, lamented Bentley. Also: the Beretta in the movie version of Dr. No seems to show up in every British spy show or movie from Danger Man to The Saint to Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy and likely more after that. Wonder if it is actually the same pistol? Finally, that shape-shifting PP masquerading as a PPK actually morphs into an FN 1910 in one scene, then regains its actual form later. Not quite as bad as the suppressed "Smith and Wesson" 1911 that Professor Dent uses in his last attempt to kill Bond--the 1911 that apparently holds only six rounds.

Guns of James Bond? I really, really hope it covers the customised .38 which graced the cover of 'From Russia With Love.' That, and its, owner - the R/L the inspiration for Major Boothroyd - definitely iconic.

I think it's pretty clear that the original books and the movies are separate canons. The movies made the scene classier though, because 007's Beretta 418 was kind of a bubba piece as I recall, featuring a cut down barrel and no grip panels.

The movies may not be canon, but they are what the vast majority of people are familiar with so Caleb is covering the guns that appear in them as well as the books.

Well, no. He actually turns in a Beretta .25 and gets a PPK. Because that is what the book says happens, and that is why the dialogue is what it is. The movie may have used a Beretta 1934 and Walther PP to portray it, but the movie is not canon, the book is.

In general, the real-world equivalents not the movie props. In some cases, the guns shown are not what they are described as (for example, in Dr No Connery actually turns in a Beretta 1934 and actually gets a Walther PP, despite the dialogue says a Beretta .25 and a PPK). The book is also covering the Flaming and continuation Bond novels in addition to the films, so that adds a bunch of stuff that were all real guns and not resin props.
