Striving Spark

Sallina isn't exactly a veteran warrior... More an elementary school teacher. But also a survivor, who's seen things. She takes her job as a General seriously, though, so she's at least able to evaluate her own soldiers to some extent and compare Lucy to them.

Oops DX

Chloe’s sharp weapons putting people on EDGE. … unintentional pun?

I've often heard that, in fiction, a good fight scene is a conversation. A LOT can be conveyed and gleaned by observing how someone fights, ESPECIALLY when a fight doesn't go the way one predicts. And, as a veteran warrior who potentially has seen the way that previous heroines fight, I'm sure that Salina was probably able to tell that there's quite a great amount of difference between Lucy and her predecessors. Also, I'm wondering how rattled Lucy is after hearing about what sounds like literal war crimes that previous heroines comitted against demons in the past.

Striving Spark

Lucy gets a little competitive with sparring - to her, it's about being strong enough to protect people, and showing off that strength. But she's also having fun letting loose with someone she can't hurt *too* badly. Chloe, by contrast, just loves a good fight - but actually hates the idea of fights to the death. She's all about the joy of letting loose, and her fighting style really showcases her nature as a trickster. In a good way, though? To be honest, it was only after I wrote everything that I realized she'd somehow found a way to play peacemaker despite Sallina's objections. Through fighting, of all things...

Also, LOVED the interaction between Feyra and Bailey. First of all, eyebrow raise and small smirk from me at Feyra's reaction to seeing Bailey's demon form. But also, I love that Feyra finally has someone to talk to that's willing to give it to her straight and isn't overly concerned about hurting her feelings ... and isn't someone she's pants-wettingly terrified of. I think Feyra getting Bailey's perspective on things, from someone who has no expectations or agenda concerning trying to convince her to do/be something aside from being less annoying, has a real chance of actually getting through to her a bit.

Great chapter! Very interesting to see Salina's reaction, since it pretty much confirms that she genuinely cares about Devilla and, as you said, showcases the generational difference in views of the heroine/humans. Also, seeing Niv being protective of Chloe was kinda adorable. Really happy to see the fight junkies Lucy and Chloe bonding over sparring. And by fight junkies I mean like martial artists who enjoy the physicality, creativity, tactics, and competition that comes from a good fight. I could tell that Chloe was mostly toying with Lucy ... though that also seems to be an innate part of her fighting style. Still, Lucy has a long way to go still, and I have a feeling that her getting stronger might actually be needed before she, Devilla, Abigail, and others are able to get their "happily ever after."

Striving Spark

She would have undyed it. I'll be sure to get her thoughts when Devilla dyes it again, at least - it kinda slipped my mind.

Sorta a minor thing, but is Devilla's hair still dyed right now? Between Salina (or Chloe for that matter) and Lucy, seems like one or the other might have mentioned something if it was different from what they expected Doesn't matter a ton, but would be a little bit of a shame if she just undyed it offscreen and we didn't get to see Lucy's reaction

Sitting in a café fighting for my life not cry in public about Baileys explanation of Devilla's character. Yup I love this series!

Okay this was really good I really liked the interactions and honestly I am actually really curious to see how Bailey and Feyra grow as.....acquaintances(?) going forward.

awesome chapter, i had no idea how you could follow the last one. The aside with Feyra and Bailey was wonderful.
