New Reproduction Colt 4x AR-15 Scope by Brownells (Ad-free)
🕑 Added 2024-05-26 12:00:01 +0000 UTCIn the 1970s and 80s, Colt offered a 4x20 fixed power scope for its commercial AR (the SP-1). These replaced the earlier 3x scopes, and were designed to fit directly to the rifle's carry handle. They are a simple design, with a duplex reticle, BDC calibrated out to 500 yards in 100 yard increments, and good optics. Well, Brownells found the factory that originally made these scopes for Colt, and they still have the original plans. So Brownells arranged a license to use Colt's name and logo, and had a new run of scopes made. They use the exact same design as originally done, but with material and quality standards of today instead of the 1970s. A pretty cool accessory for a carry handle AR!

Too expen$ive for the equivalent of a modern airgun scope you can buy for $30 elsewhere. I suppose if you're a die-hard LARPer and *have* to have the repro to complete your costume it's a deal, but considering how much optics have improved in all ways over the last 40+ years, yeahnahyeah, I'll be spending my hard-earned, Biden-flated FRN$ on something else. A *couple* of something-elses for what this sells for, that will blow it into the weeds...

Brownell’s made a REPRODUCTION 4x scope before they discovered the original manufacturer, and licensed the Colt logo. They styled their name to sort-of look like the “Colt” marking.

Colt Firearms is/was probably the most mismanaged company in the country that is still in business. Remember, they had a monopoly on AR-15s and did nothing to pursue that demand to the extent that numerous companies were created just to make clones of their rifle. Same with missing the .44 mag. craze for 20 years but that's another story.

Since the scope is made by the original subcontractor and licensed by Colt, I would say that this is not in fact a reproduction but simply a new production batch. Which is really good.

This is a story I like to hear. Brownells seems to have a pretty good handle on predicting what customers may want.

Nice. Too bad Colt can't offer more reasonably priced reproductions of its own, but many of the clones/reproduction parts are actually nearly identical except authenticity. The new H&R makes some nice stuff as an example. I wish Brownells would re-introduce the BRN-10
