These rules intended to protect US manufacturers and prevent people from having access to particularly inexpensive and concealable firearms, and these rules remain in place today. In particular, revolvers with barrels less than 3" long are prohibited form importation. So how is it that we have Brazilian-made Taurus revolvers with 2" barrels (among many other examples)? Well, today we have a factory oversight from Taurus that lets us see behind the curtain...

Surprise, surprise, there was also The Firearms Act 1968 in the UK. If you wonder where the 'gun control types' get their ideas, look no further: "All the Way Down the Slippery Slope: Gun Prohibition in England and Some Lessons for Civil Liberties in America" — Olson and Kopel. "The Failed Experiment Gun Control and Public Safety in Canada, Australia, England and Wales" — Gary A. Mauser. And to further reduce firearms ownership there is Project Titanium.

Toyota, among others, did the same kind of thing. They imported pickups without cargo beds and added American made cargo beds on arrival to avoid certain import problems.

like the pkk/S. one example that comes to mind. the /S was hardly a european thing.--- sporting purpose is a real thing for sportshooting licenses in germany. hunting license can buy stuff that's undoable sportive. certain semis of smg's like mp5 or uzi repro has been out there once. under 16" ar's... only under 3" barrel handguns approved I can think of is a ruger speed six. not a sp... just the speed. I'd like a J frame. only the 36 in 3". and there are TONS of J's real cheap one just can not get. short: it sucks! they call a 1 7/8" something like "not for sportive purposes".

It's not only the gun manufacturers that do this trickery. Look up the Ford Transit Connect Cargo. It was legally a passenger cars only in the sense that useless seats had been added to the cargo areas with the intention of them being ditched when they cleared customs. The US government did catch wise to this eventually and massage the rules to close the loophole.

Of course we enjoyed the video. The comments about Sat Night Spc were pertinent and accurate. I was old enough to fully understand the politics of '68 and you are spot-on that basically not much has changed on the political front.

I believe that convoluted "points" system is what kept the Glock 42 (can't remember what it was called before that) out of the US market for a long time. Their .380 was available just about everywhere except the US for quite a while before they managed to get it's "points" high enough to import
