The film AK-47: Kalashnikov depicts Kalashnikov's SMG as firing from closed. Is this accurate? How could he have known how to make a full-auto closed gun at that time? What would he be basing it on?

Bad news: you’re transported back in time 80 years to the Battle of Berlin where you’re given a tunic and the rank of private by some dude called Barzov. Nobody will listen to you when you say: “I’m not supposed to be here.” They just throw rocks at you, tell you to speak Russian. You’re part of one of the many flag-bearing teams—men charged with getting the Soviet colors to the top of the Reichstag as the ultimate symbol of humiliation and defeat over Germany as Russia completes its revenge. As you fight your way house to house, street to street, story by story to that infamous rooftop… Which SMG you taking? For the purposes of this journey through time, anything fielded by April of 1945 is on the table. Doesn’t have to be Russian. Assume ample supply of ammo/mags for whatever you choose. PPS-43 is the best; PPSH-41 is the most iconic… Bet you say something in 7.65 French Long. 🫠🤣

Is there a place for a submachine gun in a modern battlefield, v.g. in Ukraine, and why? In any case, if you were to be issued one, what would be your weapon of choice? And why is the 9mm parabellum still widely used for SMG's?

Do you believe that new submachine guns and new calibres for them will still be being designed in 40-50 years time to replace contemporary designs when MP5s etc finally stop being made? Or will the remaining niche the submachine gun still has over carbines be filled just as well in the future by newer existing 9mm designs like the MPX, APC-9 and PMX?

Given submachine guns were intended from the start to be close range and automatic fire quickly empties magazines, why (other then a few exceptions) weren’t bayonets put on them to give the user an extra option should it be necessary?

Did anyone ever attempt a smg in .38 Super? I’d imagine that the barrier penetration would be an asset.

What was thw most aburd form of feeding the SMG? Magazinee size or form. Any beelt fed SMGs? :)
