Comic WIP: New Bar
🕑 Added 2021-07-06 19:58:04 +0000 UTCOne of my favourite shows is Bojack Horseman, which is probably not a surprise to anyone, haha. Lately, I've been thinking a lot about this part of the show where Bojack's done a movie and he's doing interviews and stuff and everyone keeps being like 'So, what's next?' and he kind of freaks out and he's all like, 'Why does there always have to be something *next*' and I'm kind of feeling that right now haha
On the one hand, I absolutely definitely want there to be a 'next' for me. I want to make more books and continue to grow as an artist. I want the work I make in the future to be better than what I'm making now, but on the other hand, it's troublesome how quickly something you make is consumed, both by your audience and by yourself.
I want to slow down and make room for myself to breathe creatively, but I also want to zoom on to the next thing and make as much as I can! I for sure need to find a healthy balance, and I don't think there's anything inherently wrong with either.
I guess this is just another episode of Bex Overthinks Everything haha :>

You don't need to do better everytime. You did great for this project and that already wonderful! You can just feel proud <3 (I know it's easy for me to say that, and that people are often like "what's next?" so it's hard not to feel like the bar is higher)

This is a very good point, I've been offered higher and higher positions at my job for years, but always turn them down because of expectations and stress I think about how things could be better if I was in charge, but honestly I would probably lose sight of a lot of issues that are very clear to me just now there's nothing wrong with wanting to continue at your current pace (or even slowing down a little bit) for some reason, there's a thing in people's minds that says "doing as well as you did last year as bad", and with some of the youtubers I watch, it's very clear to me that it's not even enough for their metrics to grow year over year, instead they need the *rate* at which their metrics grow to increase year over year it's not sustainable, it always ends in destruction you don't always have to push your boundaries and leave your comfort zone, which is something I need to keep in mind for myself more often :/
