With the release of Color Splash and the Switch reveal I've been busy as heck, and my videos about them have gotten me a bunch more subscribers. I think it was yesterday that I hit 65,000!!! I need bigger boosts than this if I'm going to hit my pretty-ridiculous goal of 100,000 by the end of the year, but hey, I'll just keep working at it. I say if you're setting a goal, set it a little further than you think you can go. That makes you work all the harder, and if you don't meet it you can still be like, "Yeah but look how much I DID do." Hitting the goal isn't exactly what matters; that's just a number. Getting off your butt and doing something is what matters. There's your little motivational speech for the day, haha.
It was a tough thing getting that last video out in time for Halloween, but I REALLY wanted to do it this year, so I pushed through and managed to get all the videos out that I wanted to. Feels pretty great, as that makes all of October a success in the one-a-week department. In fact the Switch reaction bumped that number higher, though it was a quick and easy video that I wouldn't want to count as the weekly video unless I was having a really tough time getting something else done. Then since the Halloween video came so early in the week I might just take it easy for the rest of this week and start the next video on Monday. Knowing me that's probably not going to happen and I'll end up spending all that time working on scripts, but hey, whatever.
One reason I was glad I was able to get that video done was that it feels like I've been fighting a cold for like a week. I'm still waiting for it to become full-blown, but still I just feel a little funky. So I'm not sure what will happen, but if it does become something that's going to set me behind, as colds make my voice sound funny for an annoyingly long time. Now that I've hit my $500 goal I need to record more let's plays, but I don't want to as long as I'm dealing with this sniffly nose. So here's hoping it just finally clears up in the next few days and I can at least do that this week. If I'm not doing any other videos LP's are a nice relaxing thing to work on.
Speaking of Patreon goals, I really need to go through and do a makeover. Most of them made more sense last year, you know? Like, the 3DS is at the end of its life and I don't think it would be worth putting time and money into playing 3DS games. Then I'm getting a PS4 soon, so that goal doesn't make sense anymore either. I feel like I might have already deleted that goal, but I don't know. And at this point after learning more about how much the government takes from so-far-untaxed internet money, I might need to raise my final goal of "Youtube full time," and in fact I might need to just make it something else because I'm already kind of doing Youtube as much as I can given my other life responsibilities which are much less flexible. I mean more money can definitely help free up some of my time in ways... I don't know, this is what I'm talking about, I just need to go in and rethink the whole thing. Another thing I need to rethink is the $3 tier. Man, no matter how much I get on myself, I just can't seem to make vlogs a regular habit. They're just kind of a pain in the butt to do when I've got all this other stuff to make happen. But I want something at that tier for the people who want to give a little more than one buck, but not too much. I've considered making it more of an audio log or something so I can just record the voice and not have to deal with the video. But again, I just need to think about it. So expect some changes soon, when I can get around to it.
As for November, maaaaan, I don't even know. I have so many things I want to do in November that I'm not sure how I'll do it. Off the top of my head I want to do a ten-year retrospective of the Wii and talk about how amazing it was at launch--a little more nostalgic stuff, as playing Twilight Princess was one of the best gaming experiences of my life, and the last time I felt that sort of childlike wonder. Then of course it's my channel's two-year anniversary, so I want to do something for that. It might just be another video where I sit there and talk for a while, more informal and personal like my "selling out" video. Not sure yet. I also want to make a followup to my Switch video outlining all the ways it could be screwed up by Nintendo (I'll try not to make it sound quite that negative, heh). I already talked about how it COULD end up being amazing, but I want to explain how Nintendo's got to do everything right for it to happen. I'll give more details as I get them, of course, but this is what I'm thinking now. I'm going to get a chunk of very free time in the middle of the month, so I'm holding onto dreams of doing one of those secret comedy projects from an age long past that I just never have time for.

Yeah he did, though I guess I just feel like going over it all in my own way. Partially because I didn't actually watch the whole video, I just showed up to record my parts, haha. But maybe if I did watch it all I'd change my mind.

You're right, the doing it can be seriously hard sometimes. And the feeling of actually getting somewhere is fantastic, though probably more surreal than anything! I do plan on doing more Gamer's Brief sometime, just been a little lazy as they're pretty tough to write. So many jokes all at once!

I found your channel through the Nintendo Switch video recently and just had to show my support somehow. The amount of creativity behind the concepts for your videos and the excellence with which they're executed are perhaps the most inspirational thing I've seen in recent memory. Not trying to sound overly enthusiastic here, I believe I can say that without fear of exaggeration. The way your videos are scripted has me especially impressed, mostly because of the pure skill involved but also to a non-trivial degree simply because you approach things from a positive angle. It's rare to see that, sadly, and even rarer to see it not only as a means of being contrarian towards all the negativity and cynicism that's present in the gaming industry. I love your channel to bits is what I'm saying, and that's a sentiment I don't often get to express. As someone who struggles to stay motivated, I aspire to your kind of passion and I'm incredibly glad I found your channel. Just felt you ought to know that.
Glad to hear you are happy with the way things are going. I will say that using a todo tracking app helps me hit my work goals and keeps me on schedule. There is a lot of talking about doing things but I know for myself personally the biggest struggle is doing it. It takes a lot of power for me to motivate myself and when you are your own boss work only gets done when you're willing to do it. I'm happy to see that in you. I can tell that you put a great deal of time and effort into your videos and it's beginning to pay off. That feeling must be fantastic. All that aside, I really enjoy your more "deep thinking" videos like the calm before the NX video. The insight you put in there was really nice and I feel like a lot of people don't stop to appreciate those moments but I was glad to. And I really thought the "Gamers Brief" was genuinely hilarious, very witty, and refreshing in the way of gaming news. If you don't make any more I can totally understand but I wouldn't be mad if I saw one on my feed in the future :)

I meant to commend you on that, Arlo! You managed to get out all 3 videos at this month, even when you thought you WOULDN'T have time, and to that I say, job well done! As for your $3 tier- I think an audio log wouldn't be too bad at all, because doing a vlog has to be a tad tedious with all the other stuff your doing- I mean, can't wait for next week's episode of the Top 10 things in Yoshi's Story that looks like Butts, but I'm sure it'd take a lot of work. I'd say it depends what your audio logs would be about- would it focus of games? Life? Not too sure what you have in mind, but I think Patreons would like it. I mean, who doesn't like that sweet jazzy puppet voice, am I right? Anyway, congrats on the 65K subscribers my good sir, that's quite impressive!
Wait, wasn't the Lockstin/Gnoggin video you just did essentially the negatives that could happen to the switch? If you want to re-hash Nintendo mistakes that could be repeated on the switch, save it for Thanksgiving and call it "Nintendo's Biggest Turkeys" - I mean, unless your viewership isn't going to get the old timey slang. Eh, either way. October was exciting, those Switch videos were timed perfectly. Good calls all around.
