A valley path moving through thick forest. The perfect place for an ambush...
This pack has a special exploration of the new features of Foundry VTT (released in the latest stable update, which is available now). All of the trees in this map are built into the new Canopy Layer feature, which means that they will disappear when your players walk into them, showing the floor and tree trunk below. This is really a lot of fun to play on and makes the map a lot more dynamic!
I'm trying to figure out the best workflow for this new canopy option, and whether it will be a continuous feature of my maps or not. It takes a LOT more work to paint and export all of the assets involved, with double the amount of maps, as well as the extra time building them into Foundry VTT...so...we will see. I'd like to do this for nice feature maps that will really be improved by the experience at least!
Anyway, I hope you enjoy it! Here's what's included!
20 custom maps including - Grass, frozen snow, haunting mists, river, frozen river, UNDER tree canopy (of every version), and night versions of all! As well as a FoundryVTT-ready pack with pre-built walls, dynamic lighting, and ambient sounds! What will you use it for?
18x22 - gridded and gridless (for all tiers)
- Surveyors get the Forest Valley including the UNDER canopy versions (gridded and gridless)
- Cartographers get the Forest Valley in all 20 versions including - Grass, frozen snow, haunting mists, river, frozen river, UNDER tree canopy and night versions of all!
- Moonlight Archivists get the map pack with all versions, a FoundryVTT-ready pack with pre-built walls, dynamic lighting, and ambient sounds, as well as a bespoke Moonlight Encounter (released a few days after the map pack) made especially for this map!

I use Roll20, and had considered swapping the canopy tokens between the map and GM layers as players went under the trees. I hadn’t taken the lighting into account though.

That's precisely what this is actually. I still need to produce maps with the trees included because many patrons don't use Foundry, or won't be utilising the canopy functionality. The other difficulty with making the tree assets reusable is that they are custom painted with lighting, if I had plain trees on a map they would stand out quite obviously as strange 😊🌙

Could you not produce the maps with just the stumps and have the canopy layer available as PNG assets that can be re-used on multiple maps?
