One of books that defined my love for Sci-Fi genre was "Limes Inferior" by polish author Janusz Zajdel (unfortunately i dont think it has been translated to english). The book shows a possible post-scarcity future where automation of work reduced the amount of jobs available, and how it affected the society. In this scenario education was mandatory for every citizen, with an exam at 18yo that defined their future role in society. 1s, 2s and 3s were given a jobs and adequate number of money, 4s were the reserve in case of trouble while 5s and 6es were given just basic income and no work. With recent boom of machine learning the talk about post-scarcity has picked up lately so this topic seems more prevalent than ever. What are your thoughts on the subject and what are your favorite books that try to answer similar questions about our future ? New patron here, Ive been listening to your stuff for couple of months now. I like both your style, and the substance of your videos. Keep up the good work !

In response to the latest video... What's to stop the seekers from locating nogenes in the end via other methods? - If that's been discussed before I have a followup on general scifi fiction. Are there more series or books you would recommend involving planning over time or civilizations over time? Seeing it with the Foundation in the show, Dune, and the wallfacer project obviously goes to the extreme. The absolute gamble on humanity's future is always captivating to read or watch. Latest podcast episode sounds fun, I need to listen.

Heyo, love the videos. Thanks for introducing me to countless good books from the children of time series, blindsight, blood music, bear head. Ive really enjoyed reading so many books that seem to explore the idea of the threshold of consciousness within intelligent systems ; like the crows in children of memory that insist they aren't conscious or even in stories like I Understand by Ted Chiang or Flowers for Algernon where a protagonist shifts in intelligence during the story. Im curious to know what your thoughts are on this as a sub genre in sci fi and any recommendations of other work that features it! Thanks for the videos! Hey Quinn, have you read Ted Chiang's short story collections? If so, which of his short stories do you think has deep implications that could be explored further in either the written or film medium? Personally the story The Lifecycle of Software Objects is terrifying and I think would be a very relevant story for our age that is obsessed with AI's trajectory.
