Nerd³ Drives A Desert Bus In VR
🕑 Added 2017-12-09 21:00:38 +0000 UTC Settle down, it's going to be a long one.Spoilers follow.
The last Desert Bus road trip is an almost iconic part of my video library. 8 hours of unfiltered opinion that lots of people like and lots of other people gave up a short way into. This video couldn't be anything like that. Nobody wants a sequel that's just a rehash, but how do I fill 8 hours of time in a totally different way?
The answer was simple. Let's do a road trip. A proper one with all the games, arguments and lulls that happen. No script, just three people who can't leave each other's company. VR is immersive, so let's immerse ourselves in it. Let's see if we can capture that road trip feel.
There was a downside. Fuck this game is painful to play. My hands were fucking killing by the three hour mark. Having to grip both hands, and keep the right one at an angle to steer. The crash was inevitable so I could get through it without permanent damage. Doing it at the four hour mark kept the 8 hour feel, it just freed me from the literal agony of the controls. Typical Gearbox, they made the worse version of an already terrible game.
So, what happened at the end there? Well, my Vive died. Don't worry, It's working now so I assume it just overheated or something but holy shit, that was a terrifying moment. Fallout VR is coming, I need this thing to work! The Vive dying took the recording AND the audio with it so that's why the quality at the end there is low. That's actually our 3rd backup. My audio died, Jon's didn't record at all and we were saved by the Teamspeak recording. Desert Bus is difficult to record right.
Oh and yeah, Jon actually bought and destroyed a ukulele for this video. I like Jon.

PS. Next week... Something a bit... controversial.

I went trough the whole thing doing a 2 hoursish bit each day and it was amazing. The road trip feel was certainly there, it's amazing that Jon could find a courier to get him his items during the journey and Matt was able to get a whole piano on board! Great work from all of you, thanks guys! :)
Still crunching through it... about half an hour a day

Thanks Dan! I watched the whole thing and I don't think I've laughed this hard since your charity livestream. You, Matt, and Jon just have such great comedic chemistry and honestly this video is one of my favourites.

Let this comment state for the record that this video is brilliant and I miss the Podcats. This was a nice little glimpse into the reality where that was still happening.

Is it bad that I've listened to the old desert bus about a dozen times? I find your opinions really interesting and it's great fun listening to you.
