Iconography Design - Attacks, Weapon Quirks, and Enemy Behaviours
🕑 Added 2022-10-10 01:53:14 +0000 UTCHi everyone,
Alex here again. If you dived through the spreadsheets in the last post, you may have seen some new iconography designs dotted amongst them.
The icons are graphic visual elements to enhance the data they represent; namely;
• Enemy Attack Behaviors
• Weapon Attacks - Alice's Primary and Alternate Fire Modes
• Weapon Perks - We're calling them "Quirks"

I want to use these visuals where I can to give a consistent visual cue whenever a particular game design element is mentioned, either in the DB or in the spreadsheets.
These are early first passes for each icon, and may be slightly reworked if I have the time.

I want to introduce more contrast, maybe some white or another shade of red... but as the project is largely a "work-in-progress" here's some more of that to share.
Let me know what you think.
Detailed explanations for the information these icons represent are mentioned in the spreadsheets in the other post.
These will appear in the Design Bible (along with a lot more) in the big Halloween update.
Back to it!
Cheers,
Alex

I love this idea, and I love the icons! I'd love to have them as sheets of stickers!

I love the visuals on those. Especially the second and third picture!

I really like the idea of calling them 'Quirks' it seems to fit the themes of the game

they look great. i agree that white would be a good contrast, it relally make them pop. another shade of red would just muddle them up
These are amazing designs! I can't wait to see the context of these attacks!

I love them. They are perfectly in line with previous Alice games by design/asthetic. I like how you use a sub-symbol of the overall category to make things more identifyable to thee eye. But i do sorta think some contrast would make them pop out, perhaps not a solid white background - as that may look too clean - but maybe a softer gradient of light greyish to a white, or perhaps some darker redish textures. Maybe the background could be more like a offset shadow, or alternative shape (Like a queen of hearts card, Hatters hat, red rose or as Alex Hughey mentioned, blood drips/splats? However having said that a solid white background reminds me of a warning sign configuration, which alerts the eyes immediately. The designs are fantastic though, and are individually unique. They'd make great t-shirts lol. Great work as per!

Very good looking icons! 👍
I don't remember if you have to unlock the quirks or not but if you do, maybe when you unlock it have the icon fly in from the background and have it stop abruptly splattering some drops of blood in the camara then have the description fade in underneath it in white. Or you could do it when unlocking a new weapon
I agree some contrast would be nice, maybe like a thin white border on the inside of the icons
