Case 109: Belanglo (Part 1/5)
🕑 Added 2019-03-21 20:45:08 +0000 UTCIn the late 1980s and early 1990s, backpackers from across the globe flocked to Australia in search of sun, surf and adventure. Although hitchhiking was frowned upon, it remained a popular option for those seeking a cheap, convenient method of transit.

I was referring to the fact that they are usually referred to as a “two man tent” but they have made it gender neutral ;)

I had never heard of this case before - sounds very intriguing so far. Really well written too.

I believe that tent exchange will end up being an important detail.

Excellent episode. A really nice pace in both narration and background sounds to this case. I even like the way they exchanged the “two PERSON tent” with the other backpacker. Excellent attention to detail. These guys think of it all! Well done to all involved, looking forward to the next part.

Another stellar, chilling episode, thank you. I had never heard of this case. I was the the same age as the backpackers in the early 90s, and just as adventurous and trusting. Hitchhiking was still somewhat common at the time, especially outside the US. I did it myself a few times.

Well presented. I'm looking forward to the other parts

*** SPOILERS OF THE CASE TO FOLLOW DON'T READ IF YOU DON'T KNOW ABOUT THE CASE *** So based on this episode it sounds like they are going to focus on the main 7 victims which were what he was prosecuted with, which makes sense. I'm just curious if time will be spent to the other chunk of victims who are almost certainly agreed upon to be more Milat victims and just weren't part of the official prosecution or not. There were 7 official, plus I believe 6 unofficial and then the taxi driver so 14 fairly certain ones plus also more "maybe it was him" victims too. My guess is he's responsible for 15-20 deaths. I also know that the team doesn't like to go into gruesome details, but I hope they at least mention the spine severing. It's such a level of terror that I think that detail alone has stuck with me more than anything about the murders.

OK - time for part 2 please! :)

4 minutes in and already loving this episode

We just got to know a whole lot of young people who we know came to the very worst of ends. The tension was great. If the other four are as good as this, it's going to be the new benchmark episode

I can see why this is a five parter. EP one has only scratched the surface.
