Bruce is truly an utter hero: he has changed the way we treat trauma across the world and the prospect for traumatised people to be able to recover. I knew this had happened but never really appreciated how utterly horrific it must’ve been & would continue to be. I hope somebody has told him this is coming 🙏🏼

So I know Bruce Perry - he’s the consultant psychiatrist of a service I worked at (in Melbourne). This entire story from his past is very, very intense. Dr. Perry has changed the lives of thousands of traumatised children around the world and it’s hard to not think this experience had a profound impact on his future career.

From what I’ve been able to ascertain, from years of true crime reading, it seems like California was the unofficial center for the free love and hippie movement. Teens from all over the country were “California bound” with good intentions and if the ugliness of human nature has taught us anything, sharks will gather where there is food. Plus, mixed with the weird dissolution of the nuclear family, just a couple years prior and fresh in American society, a lot was going on, socially, that seems to have just found a lot of people who were lost and trying to find their way and wound up in that area. I think it was just the perfect storm, that hit the wrong place at the wrong time. Books have been written on the subject, those are just my arm-chair detective reasonings. ☺️ take with a grain of salt, people are fucked.

Is there some sort of explanation as to why there were soo many predators concentrated in that area during that time? (or is it just a coincidence?)

This is probably my favorite episode you guys have done. This one hit hard, and the pool of predators from this area is endless, which makes it so much more tragic. 3 cases in 1, in an area and time that was full of horror. I was initially thinking you were going to tie these into Alcala’s trail of sadness, no idea where it was going. Thank you for all you do! What a white knuckle ride! ❤️
