Case 172: Michael Gregsten & Valerie Storie
🕑 Added 2021-04-10 08:07:39 +0000 UTCThe identikit image showed a man with a pale face, slicked-back dark hair, deep-set brown eyes and bushy eyebrows. His right eyebrow was raised, giving him a somewhat inquisitive expression. While studying the sketch, Charlotte France remarked that it looked like her houseguest - Jim Ryan, the only exception being that Jim had blue eyes. Jim heard Charlotte but said nothing, keeping his eyes affixed to the television.

It was at the end, I listened last night. They mentioned a recent exhumation. Is this different?

This one was a roller coaster!

Thank you for the case. Excellent job. Too bad they couldn’t get some DNA or fingerprints from the Morris mini. The killer spent a lot of time there.

I really like the way your team puts together stories. I listen to other podcasts in between Casefile and it’s always apparent that Casefile has set the bar high. Thanks for this one! Great season thus far.

Wow. I thought I knew this case and was convinced of Hanratty’s innocence. I have no idea how I didn’t know he was most likely guilty!

Heard this recently on another podcast but I will listen to your version at some point. It is crazy how this story spanned over 4 decades. I think the DNA evidence probably confirmed Hanratty did it. But I'm not 100% convinced Valerie identified the right man. Overall I think Hanratty did it but I can't say I'm certain.

Unmatched Storytelling, as always. I was captivated. What a strong woman for surviving that ordeal and remaining absolutely sure of herself all those years.

What a belter of an episode! Thanks team, I’ve been gripped

I feel so bad for Hanratty's family, what a horrible burden he put on them by continuing to lie to them. I'm glad justice had been done because the trial was definitely shaky on the evidence and it's awful when you find out someone was wrongfully convicted. I can't imagine how awful the surviving victim would have felt if the DNA had shown Hanratty was innocent.

This is insane.

WHAT? what did you just do to me? incredible.

I was thinking that a familial DNA match from the parents doesn't rule out Hanratty's brother. But Wikipedia says that Hanratty's body was exhumed and a direct match obtained. Perhaps this should have been mentioned.

‘But Mick, that’s fate for you’. What a line. What a story. I’ve never heard of this case before, and honestly, I was on the edge of my seat listening to this. Well done Casefile, what a good episode
