Case 200: The Zodiac (Part 2/4)
🕑 Added 2022-02-05 09:09:11 +0000 UTCOn December 20 1968, teenagers David Faraday and Betty Lou Jensen were gunned down in the middle of the night on a deserted road in Benicia, California. Six months later, another young couple, Darlene Ferrin and Michael Mageau, were shot in a parking lot in nearby Vallejo. When an anonymous caller informed the police that he’d committed both attacks, the hunt was on. Investigators found themselves in hot pursuit of an elusive murderer who seemed to enjoy taunting them through letters and cryptic ciphers; a serial killer who signed off his communications with a crosshair symbol and called himself ‘Zodiac’.

Casey and the team, I love your work, but gosh darn, this pregnant Mama needs to not listen to y'all podcasts at night because this one, and the way it's written, scared the heeby jeebies out of me.

I agree, lots of statements regarding people's feelings or actions when there were no witnesses around to verify.

Pleeeeeaaaaaasssssseeeee give us the other two now!! True Crime doesn’t spook me, but these had me on edge!

Bob, thanks for sharing that! Even when the Operator says it, is sounds creepy!

I confess that when I usually hear specifics about victims behaviour prior to a crime I feel a little relieved that they weren’t murdered. This series is turning that on its head. Not sure I’m a fan of these literary embellishments. Eg how do we know someone was feeling relaxed and happy or gazing through a windscreen etc if no one was there to see it but them?

I’ve never ever turned off a podcast to wait until day time to listen…. Until this one. Wow, it’s terrifying. Written and told so well as usual. Although I have heard of the Zodiac killer I know nothing about him and am so hooked!

Here is the telephone operator reproducing what she heard: https://youtu.be/If3uvdH9_BE?t=2139

Agreed! Glad it was not just me.

I’ll be honest, I don’t wish to hear you say ‘goodbye’ like that ever again, Casey. That was SO creepy in my ears!

We live in Benicia and your podcast contained sooooooo many details we never knew! Casefile till I die, ya'll.
Bob Trenwith
No worries. But it actually also means that "ten months later" should become "seven months later".
Casefile True Crime
Thanks Bob, good spot.

Your intro at the top of this page should say December 20, not September 20.

Great work! I never knew about William Crows experience on the 20th of December 1968. Chilling
