The reveal was that one of things they noted about Emma's body was there was a strip of flesh missing from her leg that they couldn't account for until they realized Denke was the killer. It implies he cut a strip of her leg out to eat and then escalated from there. Thanks for pointing this out or I would've missed it too. I saw your comments and focused really hard on the ending to see if I could catch it!

For those confused by the ending, my take on it was that we were already aware that Denke was known to make braces and baskets etc out of his victims skin. So when the link was made between ‘Emma’ mentioned in his notes and the woman called Emma who’s murder had been blamed on the other butcher, the fact that a strip of her skin was missing from her shin pointed to the fact that Denke was likely actually the one responsible, given his grim ‘hobbies’

I don’t think it warrants a stronger warning. Yes, it’s pretty graphic and definitely stomach churning, but I’ve heard far more sickening true crime stories, such as ones that involve horrific acts against children.

In my opinion this is by far the most graphic and disturbing episode produced by Casefile. I think an extra warning should be given to listeners about the extremely upsetting content. The people who committed these crimes are beyond deranged and depraved. At one point I asked myself why am I even listening to this. The details of what was found in his house was the worst things I ever heard. Casefile please put a stronger warning about this episode as it is very disturbing and troubling content. I hope a child never comes across this episode. I can’t get the descriptive images of cannibalism out of my head. This episode is not for the faint of heart at all.

I had the same question. Couldn't find anything online. Likely answer in Casefiles source, "The mass murderer Denke and the Trautmann case. A miscarriage of justice" but I think you have to pay to see the article. its mentioned that the cannibal is only known to kill 3 women, and he didnt record ANY of their weights, meaning he probably didnt use their bodies for eating. Emma is thought to be his second ever victim, so it sorta makes sense that her death might like different from others as he is "warming up". Some reports say the accused butcher was a work mate of the cannibal, so maybe a frame job?? Though the cannibals intelligence makes that seem unlikely...anyway IDK either what the end is about.

I agree! There are so many records of criminals like this one (“cannibals”, “vampires”, or “beasts” of a German town)… and yet this wasn’t too long ago. Perhaps the effects of war helped them in a way

I was confused by the ending as well… I was expecting a brief revelation but instead got the closing theme music 🤣

Not at all. He pronounced the u in the 1st syllable as the u in "put" instead the "oo" in moon. And the second vowel was pronounced as the er in "herd" instead of the the "air" in "hair". But if you are a Celtic speaker (esp. Scottish) then you won't be able to tell the difference.

I must be a bit twisted. I was more worried about the dogs than the humans. But weighing the remains and recording it? Wearing braces made from human skin? Selling bread baskets made of the stuff? My stomach is churning.
