Case 238: Renae Marsden
🕑 Added 2023-03-04 08:47:43 +0000 UTC20-year-old Renae Marsden was a bright and bubbly young woman who valued her family above all else. Her mother Teresa Marsden was therefore shocked when she received a message from Renae’s boyfriend, Brayden Spiteri, on August 5 2013 warning: “Sort your daughter out. Threatening to kill herself.”
Police traced Renae to The Gap, a notorious suicide spot in Sydney’s eastern suburbs, where they concluded that she had taken her own life. Renae’s family refused to believe she would have killed herself on her own accord. They urged police to launch an investigation into Brayden Spiteri’s role in Renae’s suicide, and what emerged was shocking.

Totally agree!! And the storytelling has just gotten better and better, but never at the expense of the victim.

I was floored by the revelation of who it was. Unbelievablely horrible.

100% agree and it needs to change

I can’t imagine being a parent and seeing your child manipulated like that. In spite of Camilas story barely passing the sniff test, knowing this person is a fraud and or extremely dangerous and you just have to hope they make the right decisions in the end.

Your narration skill from the earlier episodes to now is remarkable, I loved the originals too but everything is so professional now, hat's off to you as you keep getting even better as time goes on

Crazy case, the episode of Australian Crime Stories was harrowing. Excited to see the reaction next week.

I've heard this case a few times before. But as always, Casefile smashes it out of the park with details not heard anywhere else.. Well done team 👌

Great episode. Funny that all my predictions about the episode as it was playing out were both kind of right and wrong. Infuriating that Camila gets to walk free after abusing, catfishing and manipulating a good person to the point of driving her to suicide. I think this kind of episode is important because it helps to teach people about these psychos’ behavior and to cut ties asap because that this shit always ends up escalating.

Camilla is evil and the fact that she has a job and a family is frightening- she is capable of anything. I will definitely sign the petition.

Astonishing. Well told.

Yikes. I wonder if Camila’s obsessive behavior wasn’t taken seriously early on because she’s female. I feel like a teenage boy with that level of obsession would have been introduced to local law enforcement and possibly slapped with a restraining order.

hi there! don’t forget to include the link to the petition when you post the podcast widely next week. would hate to miss all those sigs!! ♥️♥️

Wow. Talk about getting the abuse from both ends. Tragic life for Renae. The arc this season has been harrowing because they've all been stories of family or those as close as family. Deep strikes, all of them.

What a story. Poor Renae, who could have imagined what might be happening to her?! Thanks Casefile team
