Case 321: Vincent Viafore
🕑 Added 2025-05-31 08:16:07 +0000 UTCCase 321: Vincent Viafore
When 46-year-old Vincent Viafore disappeared while kayaking on the Hudson River with his fiancée, 35-year-old Angelika Graswald, it was initially believed to be a tragic accident. However, Angelika’s story and behaviour soon raised troubling questions about what really happened.
This was Premium Episode #33, released in March 2025. It is not new content, it is the same episode, but as Premium episodes are now going to be released on the main feed months after their initial Patreon release, we had to repost it so that all episodes can keep the same numbering on the main feed and the Patreon feed.

As somebody that has canoed and kayaked in many places around the world, including the Hudson, I think it is Crazy that intent in this situation could even be considered. When you get in the water you better know what you're doing and understand the risks. Nobody in another boat is responsible for you dying unless they hit you.

Just a message of support! Thank you for all of the research and amazing storytelling. People will always find something to complain about, and as we know, social media has created faceless & nameless trolls. As someone who probably follows more true crime than is healthy, I love hearing stories that aren’t already well known in the mainstream. This, along with the depth and care of storytelling, is what sets you and your team apart from the rest! Congratulations on 10 years of success and here’s to many more!

Keep doing what you're doing Casey and CF team! I have been a Patreon of yours for years (got Patreon as soon as you released Patreon content) and have always been happy with your release schedule. You and your team have a life beyond the podcast and deserve that. I feel a lot of the people who were upset haven't noticed how your release schedule usually goes and got confused. I get it when the dates get muddled, but the people upset over 'repeat' episodes clearly haven't noticed this isn't new
Sarah McRae
Repeat episode? They have been doing this for a long, long time. Think I have been subscribed to their Patreon for almost five years and nothing has changed in the way they release things for several years now. I have a list with every single CF episode of the main feed and the premium release episodes. Usually when we get two, one of them is one of the premium release episodes from months earlier.

I have no complaints with Casefile but get annoyed with the drama from those annoyed with Casefile each time they break. It’s probably mostly my fellow whiny Americans who expect the rest of the world to be on the same hamster wheel that our corporate and billionaire overlords have us doing and never taking the time to break for quality
Jennifer L
Consumers—decide on what the what you want to pay for/not pay for and don’t need to tell all the other consumers your beef. Take it to the management. I didn’t go into Walmart or go on all the Amazon reviews to tell all the consumers my beef. Told mgt and simply don’t spend my $ there.
Sarah
Soooo much whining from people who have access to 300+ previous episodes
Skippy From That Podcast
Casefile is hands down the best true crime podcast and the only one I support financially, but at the same time they've been doing this long enough to be aware of the optics. If they had done the free re-release of the bonus episode a week ago and then released the absolutely bonkers Miller case for Patrons on the 31st, there would have been no kerfuffle even if *functionally* nothing had changed.

I am shocked to hear anyone would think the CF team are in any way sketchy , there isn’t an ounce of deceit in that voice , this is quality podcasting, covering sensitive topics and giving legacy to the victims, I always have a quiet cry during break times , this is the voice that lulls me to sleep but I should have paced myself a bit better and not binged on the episodes, there are over 300 of them ! Kudos to the CF team and thankyou

Casefile team, I love you guys, appreciate your hard work. It can’t be easy to go deep into these cases. Those of you who are upset, just take a breath. Casey acknowledged the miscommunication about releasing one we’ve heard. He apologized, and offered a refund if you need it. But don’t shit on the team for a simple miscommunication. If you really think this is deliberate deceit maybe you don’t understand what makes Casefile a gem and what makes most others exploitative junk.
AJ
Eh I see both sides… I was confused about the repeat episode and miscommunication and agree it should have been made clearer. But it’s also not the end of the world. We get the new stuff before everyone else. Interested to hear what’s coming!
Melissa Vizza
This was a good episode, Casefile team. Have a good break - can’t wait to see what’s in store when you return.
Gay Barrie
Just wanted to say how much I’ve enjoyed the Casefile podcast so far — it’s been well-researched, informative, and always something I look forward to. The narration is excellent, with such a soothing, easy-to-listen-to voice that makes each episode a pleasure. Look forward to your comeback.
Katie Day
I would happily pay the subscription and receive the normal schedule if it means it supports all that you do. Its not a surprise there are creepy little trolls on here though 😏 Enjoy your break you guys deserve it
Ali
I just assumed there'd been a technical glitch and listened to one of my audibles instead. Why all the drama
Lauren Hurley
Keep up the good work Casey and team... I used to pause my subscription during your breaks but now I just keep it. Your hard work is worth it! Totally love you guys and don't be put off by a handful of people who misunderstood your intentions. To me, it was very clear you'd be ok a break from the end of may. Can't wait to have you back!
Nompilo Ngcobo
So they put up a post disabling comments telling us entitled cry babies to basically go F... ourselves😂 Rightfully so. I won't pause my subscription this is top tier quality content that's worth the wait!
chloe clark
I really hope none of Vincent's friends or family see the comments on this post. It's absolutely wild that some are choosing this forum to be so sanctimonious about such a small matter considering the context. It's clear some people see Casefile only as entertainment and their Pateron subscription as transactional rather than a contribution to support a team giving voice to lesser known victims of crime.
AR
this. this is how it's supposed to be. <3
Jerry Patreon Tien
Just wanted to voice my support for Casey and the team here. It's wild that people would think they are trying to be deceitful. Check out the thread on reddit where there is a lot more support and more rational people.
Hannah
lol why stop comments on that message post . It’s obv a problem and prohibits more users from commenting and blocking feedback.
Ann Engvall
You guys put together the best researched true crime podcast available, with no silly chit chat. I have no problem with you taking breaks when needed. Keep up the great work and don’t let the few unhappy listeners get to you. Offering refunds or putting subscriptions on hold is more than generous.
Tiffany Elder
Make a $10 tier where I get nothing extra and I would still sign up for it.
Susan
The quality of every single Casefile episode amazes me and, truly, I often wonder how you do it. The time, work, and effort that goes into each episode is readily apparent. No other true crime podcast compares. Period. Thank you!
Emily Leonard
This is the only true crime podcast I listen to because it’s the only one I’ve come across that feels respectful and thoroughly researched. And real, respectful journalism takes time. So thank you for creating quality journalism for us and I look forward to hearing new episodes when Casefile returns. I think most of your audience feels this way, the others are just showing how they were raised 🤷🏻♀️
Sarah
As is their right
Brenna Williams
I view my Patreon subscription as a donation to a team I love that has put out hundreds of heavily-researched, thoughtful episodes over the years, and my contribution allows them to continue doing the caliber of work I have come to expect. I don't view it as a transactional "dollar-per-episode" deal, nor was it ever really sold as such. If that's how you view this work, I'd ask you to consider the actual $$$ value of their work and how much you would expect to be paid annually for the amount of time and effort it takes to put each episode together. If you need to save money, do that! But I pay to support one of the few podcasts I listen to, so they can keep doing good work.
Sarah
These newer subscribers haven’t been around long enough to understand how the schedule works. As an OG I understand and respect the work you put into the podcast. I’m sure many others feel the same.
Ben
Correct. This was a misunderstanding. OF COURSE, I am bummed there isn’t a new Casefile this week when I thought it was new. But I’m an adult and don’t think taking frustration out on those who create the content you claim to love so much is productive.
Kylie Hirst
They said they were going to do it and suggested that people could pause their membership if they wished..
Kylie Hirst
You get them a week early and no ads, that's what you pay for.
Kylie Hirst
They said 2 new episodes when they return.
Kylie Hirst
Which part was misleading? They do this every break.
Nic L
The entitlement from people on here is incredible. You clearly have zero else going on in your life if this is your reaction. Thanks to the Casefile team for consistently putting out premium content and taking the time to ensure it’s always at a high standard. For everyone complaining, get a life. Maybe you can try and do that during the break.
Kelly Matthews
I trust and respect you guys. I pay my Patreon fee to support your work and when a new release comes out, I appreciate the work. When an older episode comes out I appreciate it too, I'm never one to go back and relisten, so it's great to get those. What people are writing in these comments... never would have occurred to me. Sounds like disappointed people lashing out. I recommend having a busy life full of a lot of different things. Quality and thoughtful episode once again Casefile mates 👌
Mike Penhall
People getting butthurt about a month and a half break is so weird to me. I follow some podcasts that put out heavily researched episodes once or twice a year and have many happy Patrons on here. They're under no obligation to put something out every week. We should be happy we get as much quality, well researched content as we do.
Marie Gough
I thought I was imagining it 🙈
kanejm85
What a slap in the face. "We're taking a month and a half break from releasing episodes but here's one you've already heard" 🤡
Dalton Hartman
While disappointing I'd rather Casefile rerelease an episode and go on breaks if it means we get the quality writing and production we always get. It's what makes this podcast special.
David Rogosaroff
This is just taking the mickey. I have unsubscribed and won‘t return. Sadly these ridiculously long breaks and misleading anniuncements are just a slap in the face of paying subscribers. I could not care less about some ads that I can skip anyway and getting cases a week earlier. Behind The Files is nonsensical anyway and does not justify my money. There is absolutely zero benefit to being a subscriber on here.
Bob Trenwith
The issue is not the break, it is what they promised for this week.
ida
Good grief. Casefile is one the most consistently good true crime podcasts for years now. I'll happily pay while they are doing research and writing. And patreon is worth it just for not having to listen to ads. People are so wrecked in these comments.
Abigail James
Wait…. What?? You didn’t release a new episode because u needed to correct the numbering for the free service… and that’s it before the break?? Even tho u literally promised 2 more episodes (2 weeks ago…. The last one being the end of May)?! Sorry but it’s not just that u didn’t come out with an episode but the brazen misleading announcements that are just wrong. I’m pissed off and done
Jake
Same here mate
Amanda Perkin
Absolutely gutted 😢
David Eagle
A re-release for patreon members as your last before break? What is the deal Casefile? Never considered dropping my membership but I think I will now
J. Chips
Although I agree with this sentiment, most of us are just disappointed because of their mixed messaging. Did they mean the last Saturday in May was for the regular feed or only Patreon? I believe I asked that same question in their announcement post and their response was not clear. Also I paid a yearly membership so I think I am allowed to complain 😂
Green Thumb
Here we go again ...
Martina Tyers
Love casefile but I think Patreon is a waste of money really I’d rather be a week behind, because non Patreons get all the bonus episodes eventually anyway for free.
J. Chips
Okay so we get a repeat episode as paying listeners? I love Casefile but you all are so disorganized with this release schedule stuff
Skippy From That Podcast
I don't mind the season breaks, but it really burns my bum when the last episode before a break is a re-release. We're paying for this stuff, man. The last episode before a lengthy break should be a premium one for members.
Kendo2710
Look, i love the podcast, but can you guys stop doing this?? Doing a rerelease of a previously released episode right before you go on break. Its like if a TV show was wrapping up a season and did a replay of an earlier episode. Because most of us have likely already listened to it, we miss out, and now we get nothing for nearly a month and a half, it's really infuriating. (And before anyone ats me about them deserving a break, i never said they don't, they do. But they shouldn't do this to people who do pay, its kind of insulting to some of us).
Clint
So no new episode before their 6 week break? They just took a 10 week break in December.
Patrick
Hmmm. I thought we were getting one more new one before the break, not a rerelease. Have a good break, either way. Can't wait for you guys to come back. 🙏
Tessa
Oooo I have so many! I always find myself going back to premium ep #12 Jamie Lavis. Case 86 Amy Allwine is another one I usually have on repeat
Nompilo Ngcobo
Where's the last episode before the break? :( I really was hoping for a new one
SPcasefile
Have a good break!!! Ok guys what's everyone's fave eps to realisten to over the break?
Tessa
Are ya’ll never satisfied? That announcement would have been a generic one for all listeners. Cop the $7.50 or unsubscribe - no one is forcing you to stay! ☺️
Bob Trenwith
But we don't. We get the first episode after the break a week earlier than the rest. Still annoyed by the ambiguous promise though.
Nat G
kinda ridiculous if the people who pay have a week longer break than the people who don't 🤨
Zac
Feels a bit deceiving really given they said they would be going until the end of the month
Zac
They said that we would get a new episode on the last Saturday?
Brandon Sudduth
$7.50 is kinda bullshit
David Knight
Is there a final new one today before the break or just wrapping up here? Fine either way just checking
